What People are saying

Great place to stay

Lzoro1on 15/07/2016 06:59

Great B&B to stay while in Florence, located in a good position within walking distance to all major sites. Gianna was a wonderful host, and nothing was ever too much trouble for her. Breakfast was small (croissant and coffee) in cafe next door, however they were the most delicious croissants i have had in a while. spacious room and recommend this place for anyone staying in Florence as it is also great value for money.

big and clean room

room was big enough and really clean. bed and sofa was covered with new linen which made me felt good. breakfast coupon can be used at neighbored cafe(leonardo's). bread and coffee there were so great too. good restaurant 'fuoco matto' was just in front of. place was little bit far from S.M.N stn than my expect, but i was definitely satisfied!:)

Great value

I staid at the B&B for one night in a single room and was very pleased. It was well-located near the Academy gallery just a short walk from the train station. The room was comfortable, clean, with great airconditioning (it was 100 degrees F outside!) and free wifi. Breakfast was just a croissant and cappuccino at the next-door tea room with a beautiful garden, so don't expect a big feed. I was fine with buying an extra pastry.

“A Small, private and totally enjoyable bed & breakfast establishment in an ideal location in Florence”

Lanterna Fiorentina Bed & Breakfast

How Chy D can say this property does not offer value for money is beyond my understanding - for what you get in Florence it is a bargain. It is true that, if you must have a big hearty breakfast before you start the day, you might be better staying elsewhere but for those coming to Florence to enjoy Florence - read on

I stayed with Gianna at Lanterna Fiorentina seven years ago and everything was as I remembered when we returned this August. Before we arrived we had asked Gianna to advise us regarding reservations for the Galleries but, on arrival, we were delighted to find that she had already ensured we had reservations for Galleria dell’Accademia (to see Michelangelo’s David and the other superb exhibits) as well as for the Uffizzi (unmissable collection of paintings and sculptures) so we were not wasting time in queues. No hostess could be more helpful and obliging and the location is ideal - just a twenty minute, case pulling, stroll from Florence SMN railway station, down Via Nationale to via Aprile XXVII and Lanterna, a ten minute walk to Accademia, the Basilica and Duomo and twenty minutes to Uffizzi and Ponte Vecchia.

The property is on the first floor of a typical Italian apartment block with character, has a lift and good wifi, and for those who enjoy their independence it is ideal, with breakfast being served literally whenever you want it in the Gelateria next door but one. The breakfast may only be a croissant and coffee but Leonardo, the owner, who makes his own ice cream in the artisanal way, could not be more obliging and breakfast can be taken in the courtyard garden beneath the Lanterna rooms. Most days we did not take breakfast until the late afternoon, accompanied by a delicious ice cream, whilst resting after coming back from enjoying a day's sightseeing and before we started preparing for the evening's delights that Florence offers.

As for eating out I can honestly saygood, honest, reasonably priced Tuscany cooking awaits you at Zio Gigi in Via Portinari near the Duomo, La Burrasca in Via Panicale and i'Toscana in via Guelfa, both of these being just five minutes walk away from Lanterna. For fine seafood dining book a table at the Michelin recommended and very nicely appointed, Bistro del Mare, a twenty five minute stroll down to the Arno, and situated between Ponte Vecchia and Ponte Trinita. If you book online and choose what you want to eat in advance you will enjoy a 20% discount from your bill - just remember to remind them when you arrive.

– “Small, private and totally enjoyable” is exactly how we would describe staying at Lanterna Fiorentina because if you are looking for a value for money bed and breakfast, in a very convenient location with an extremely helpful owner as your hostess it is hard to beat.

TIP - when booking ask for the en-suite room overlooking the courtyard garden

Affordable, cute apartment close to city centre

I had to leave my hostel for one night during my time in Florence as there was no availability as i wanted to stay longer (Florence was the best city!) so I booked a night at the Lanterna Fiorentina last minute as the rate was very very good for a single room, and it was just down the road from my hostel. The apartment is very lovely, and the 'single' room actually came with a double bed. The furnishings were basic but very cute and it looks exactly like the pictures. It has a lift which is great for suitcases!! The wifi was good and was able to Skype. The TV was tiny in the room, so i didn't bother; The one downside of the single room is that the private bathroom for that room is down the hallway, but it wasn't too inconvenient. It is not a new hotel, so expect what you get for your money, and the rate is exceptional for something right beside the city and a quick walk to the main attractions. The owner is lovely and accommodating, and she allows you to leave luggage for the day. The 'breakfast' is just a voucher for a drink and pastry in the cafe next door, so you will need to consider eating out if you need more, but it has a lovely garden which is a nice way to start the day. Overall I would highly suggest this B&B due to it's price, location and lovely owner.
