What People are saying

Lovely old Hotel

Brian Ton 09/06/2017 22:22

Beautiful buildings lovely grounds, good food but a limited menu. Worth a visit but the local area is very quiet and closes very early. Good, central position to visit the Rhone area for some wine tastings.

Pretty place

We stayed at the hotel as a stop on a self guided cycling tour. We were disappointed that our room didn't have the shower we had requested. Just a bathtub! Not good after a long ride. We didn't eat at the hotel because they didn't have any vegetarian options on the menu. The breakfast was very good.

Chateau of Marquis de Sade

We stayed at Chateau de Mazan with our Trek Travel group. The hotel is nice although the building is old and it shows. The entrance to our room was outside. So usually we had to go by the front desk, one floor down, through the whole building, and outside. The benefit though that pool was very close. The room had a little private patio. The door there once opened was somewhat tricky to close. The main problem with the room was the fact that there was no standing shower but only a whirlpool bath, and you were supposed to hold the shower in your hand. I guess it was an upgrade over a standard room but we along with our fellow cycling group members were dreaming of a shower after a long day of riding. Otherwise, the room was good. It had a huge king size bed, separate sitting area, plenty of room. Hotel decor was rather strange with some suggestive paintings on the wall. I guess the reason is that it's a former residence of Marquis de Sade and they were trying to show the connection. Overall the hotel I can recommend this hotel

Excellent Hotel

Randy Bon 04/06/2017 16:32

We stayed two nights at Chateau de Mazan at the end of a bike trip. The property is gorgeous and the attention to detail is excellent, though it's not snobby. Just the opposite, the interior is at times both graceful and historical and then whimsical and clever. Our garden room was exceptional with a private terrace. The staff was extremely courteous and professional. The breakfast was excellent with high-quality items, including moist scrambled eggs in a jar, juices, cheeses, and breads. The hotel has a secure parking area for cars and a locked bike shed which was a really nice touch. There's also a lovely pool. I highly recommend the Chateau de Mazan, though the town of Mazan itself left us scratching our heads a bit. It's a small, quiet town with nothing to do at night and very little to explore. We found a great pizza restaurant but there didn't appear to be much else.

Hotel with historic roots

Ursula2302on 31/05/2017 18:00

This historic building from 18th century once belonged to the marquis de Sade. The village Mazan is unimpressive but this chateau certainly is. The rooms on the ground level are great, all have private terraces with direct access to pool and parking. Great atmosphere also in the public rooms, such as the restaurant. Staff very friendly and efficient. Really a great place! Fully deserving the 3 red houses in Michelin guide.
The plates in the restaurant were a bit disappointing but maybe expectation was to high.
Can very firmly recommend.
