What People are saying

Not a chateau as we know it, Jim!

XKSueon 17/01/2017 20:34

The food was great, the staff very pleasant and the courtyard with the imposing Chateau building looked most impressive. We wondered why the accommodation was in the converted stable block. The room was fine with everything we needed for a night's stay. We had to venture down the outside staircase and across the courtyard to access the bar and restaurant. The food was delicious, well presented and served efficiently. The bill too was remarkably modest. It would appear to be a good place from which to explore Burgundy but if you are looking for the chateau experience try Chateau d'Ige.

Amazing location and charm, but....

We were greeted very well and were surprised that they upgraded us to a suite in the main building for our 4 nights (it was actually done to accommodate other guests who requested basic rooms for shorter stays). As nice as it seemed, the ONLY and best part was the private terrace with a wonderful view of the vineyards. It was a one bedroom, full bath (shower) plus powder room, living, dining room and kitchen usually costing 499 euros. It was very strange though, that the kitchen was completely unequipped except for kettle, coffee cups, instant coffee, tea, sugar and expensive mini bar drinks. No plates, utensils, pots, not even a bottle opener or wine glasses!!! No dish soap or cloth to wash them with or tea towel to dry, anyway. So what good is that? What good is a dining room? They gladly lent us 2 wine glasses but couldn't spare a cork screw. Maybe they could replace some of the suite's crappy knick-knacks with a few more conveniences.

Upon closer inspection, it seems that the suite has not be booked much or cleaned regularly. There were spiders, cobwebs, dead bugs, and dust everywhere. The phone (cordless) was not charging on it's base. Also, the grounds including the pool and our private terrace had really been neglected. The grass wasn't cut, weeds were everywhere and what little had been planted seemed to have died or was replaced by weeds. In the centre courtyard, half of the solar lights around the hedges weren't working at night. Very sad.

It was very hot while we were there and the place is not air conditioned. No problem as long as the shutters are kept closed during the day. It would have been nice to have a fan in the bedroom to bring in the cool night air though. The bedding was a lovely warm duvet, but no flat sheet so it was that or nothing at all for covers. So I left a note requesting another bed sheet (un autre drap de lit parceque le duvet est trop chaud). ?? I thought it seemed clear. Unfortunately, the housekeeper just put the duvet cover on the bed and put the uncovered duvet in the closet. I had to use the uncovered duvet in the middle of the night because it got cooler. When they made up the room in the morning, the bed was made up with the cover only again and the uncovered duvet was folded neatly at the foot of the bed. The next morning the bed was made up with the duvet inside the cover (and no extra sheet). We were given pool towels when we arrived and we used them and left them folded on the kitchen counter. Housekeeping took these away but left a dirty towel in the powder room.

Wifi was also disappointing. Slow at times, mostly unavailable on the private terrace and none by the pool.

Saddest of all was that my husband's unique 3 meter long iphone charge cord was taken from the night stand with it's plug. After defending her staff, the manager said she will do a full investigation and email us, also giving us a chance to go through our things upon arrival home. It was left on the nightstand on the third morning and it wasn't there in the evening for our final night. It wasn't under the bed, in the bed, in our things....it was gone. They have now agreed to reimburse him for the replacement so, that was good.

If I had paid 499 euros per night for this, I would have been livid. As it was, we had a relaxing time on the terrace, enjoyed the pool and nice breakfast each day for about 160 euros per night. That came out to $240 CAD per night total with breakfast which is decent.

A horrible dissappointment

We stayed here for one night with another couple we were traveling with. We chose it as we wanted to stay somewhere authentic. The rooms were completely new, and not in a good way. There was no air conditioning, they were tiny and the color scheme from the 70s. I am sorry if you only need air con for one month of the year, but we paid what everyone else did and had the most horrid night as the fan was useless and there was no fly screen, so if you left the window open you were inundated with insects. The food was excellent but over priced. Overall we were very disappointed having stayed at other chateaus during our tour around France.

Such a gem & convenient for the motorway!

We stopped here en route to Spain, as it's 5 mins from the motorway. What a find and it exceeded am expectations.

The location is secluded, set in a pretty little village and surrounded by vineyards. The chateau has been very lovingly restored.

We were upgraded from two rooms to a very spacious apartment with private garden. We relaxed by the quiet pool and loved the chilled atmosphere.

I'd love to return. Only 6 hours from Calais and such a gem.

Gardens are a little rustic and weedy in places, but that sort of added to the charm.

€280 for 4 people for one night.

Quiet hotel

Lovely view from room. Hotel quiet and well placed. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Not able to put Cresse into Sat Nav. Leave Peage at 28 and it is easy to locate but it is a puzzle why TomTom cannot locate the village as it is not small.
