What People are saying

A good value restaurant with rooms

Bruce Kon 09/11/2016 21:33

Our daughter lives in Sainte Foy-la-Grande and we wanted a place to stay when we visited her. We'd picked out this hotel online and checked with her about local wisdom. This came out as the best place.

They have ten rooms on two floors above the restaurant. We were on the second floor. There are no lifts. However, I think the first floor rooms might be noisy, being the floor above the restaurant, on a main street in the town opposite a kebab takeaway and the rooms on the floor above have laminate flooring.

If I was picky, I would say that having a cycle in the entrance hall along with the tables that are stored when not in use on the street-side makes this a bit quirky and some of the decoration is a bit tired. However, they are big rooms, nicely furnished and with comfortable beds. We slept well. The purpose of these hotels is to provide a place to sleep. Consequently, we spent most of the time out of the room.

Breakfast is available in the restaurant at 7 Euros but we found a Boulangerie on the same street that opens each day at 6:30 where we could get coffee and a croissant for 2.80.

There are direct rail links from Sainte Foy-La-Grande railway station (a five minute walk away from the hotel) to Bordeaux, St. Emilion, Bergerac and The Dordogne at reasonable prices.

As long as our daughter remains here, we will continue to stay at the Victor Hugo.

we loved this down to earth place

Exactly what we wanted--perfect location in the middle of a sweet small village, great food, clean and pleasant rooms. Not a luxury hotel that separates you from the life of the place you are visiting and not a scummy cheap place either. Just perfectly in the middle.

Unexpectedly good dinner

We stayed for a night on a cycling holiday and were made very welcome by the new owners. It looked as if the rooms had been refurbished and they were certainly modern, spacious and clean. Although they were usually closed for dinner on Mondays they provided dinner at the pavement tables for our party of 14 and it was one of the best meals of the holiday. The dishes were traditional but with a twist and they tasted delicious.
The breakfast was in the large bar area and was generous, and the service from the staff was excellent. I would certainly stay again.

Great Budget Hotel

Spotless, budget style, big room accommodation with a very nice restaurant downstairs. Ћ hotel is at Ћ end of Ћ Main Street leading to Ћ market area. Ћ Saturday Market extends down this street. If visiting, try to avoid Sunday's and Monday's as a lot in the town (inc Ћ restaurant) are closed.

Good food, service and ambience.

We went there following a recomendation from a resident. They was a chalk board announcing "Under new property" so they have been changes around.

It was a nice day and terrace was very popular, so we get inside. Decoration, music and temperature were fine. Warm service, we chose the night menu that was composed by 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts and priced 25€ (drinks not included, though tap water is free). After ordering, we got a complimentary Noix de cajous bowl as appetizer.

Home made foie gras, Marinated salmon, Maigret de canard and Carre d'agneau were our choices and everything was well prepared and condimented, Desserts we good too specially a fruits Tiramisu very tasty.

I can warmly recommend the place to have a nice dinner.
