Dirty, smelly and overall disappointing
Maria Eon 06/03/2017 10:00We stayed at Le Grand Panorama for 4 nights and were quite disappointed during our stay. We arrived there at 8.30pm on a Thursday to find the reception completely closed and nobody available to help. After eventually discovering that there was an emergency number, we called and were given the instructions of how to get in - they could have easily emailed us this information in advance and avoided 30 minutes of back and forth in freezing weather outside!
When we then entered the apartment, we found it very dirty, like it hadn't been properly cleaned. The toilet and living room were especially dirty, and the bathroom stank of dead water.
Also, we knew before going that we'd have to rent bedsheets and towels, but hadn't been told in advance that if we arrived after the reception closed, we wouldn't be able to get them (i.e. they weren't left in the room for us) - they could have at a minimum provided that information in advance so we could have let them know we intended to rent them. The emergency contact person was very friendly and came down to give us the bedsheets in the end, but as we made the beds we noticed several stains on all the bedding and duvets. The beds were very uncomfortable, you could feel all of the springs. To top it all off, the TV wasn't working nor the remote...
At least the staff that was there was quite friendly and the kitchen was well equipped, but overall we were very disappointed by our stay and the cleanliness issue in particular was alarming.
Half term ski stay
Debbie Won 05/03/2017 16:34We have used this residence for a number of years, things had slipped and we were not so happy with our stays here. Last year I wrote a review and was disappointed with the response I received from Le Grand Panorama as I felt I made valid points that I felt were dismissed in response and just told to read the contract.
This year, although we still couldn't get into our apartment until 4pm it wasn't so chaotic so much better.
Rooms have been updated in places, including kitchen items which was good.
The staff appeared much more approachable this year than last. Therefore I will put last years experience down to teething problems with new ownership.
I am very pleased things have been improved as the location is perfect for us.
Close to telecabine, basic but clean
Debbie Won 24/02/2016 19:51We have used the Residence for a number of years, it has been taken over during the past 3 years and standards have sadly slipped.
We always used to get a brilliant service from Madame Vacances, allowing us into the room early if ready, reception open most of the day, helpful staff etc. But now Vacances Mont Blanc have taken over this has changed somewhat.
If you have any queries you need to make sure you see reception before 11am, if not you are out of luck until 4.30pm, even though you can hear them talking behind the blind.
This also means that no-one can get into their room until 4.30pm on the day your stay begins, not only is this very late, especially when you have been travelling, but this year it was carnage at Reception with everyone trying to get their room keys at the same time, then everyone trying to get their belongings into their rooms in the only 2 lifts in the hotel (for approximately 10-15 rooms per floor (5 floors), it was total madness, and not something I would like to repeat. My score would have been higher if not for this.
This is a shame as although the rooms are quite basic, they are clean and well enough equipped with everything you need for your stay.
standard accommodation close to lifts
markmsomerseton 22/02/2016 07:50We usually stay in Megeve but this half term we couldn't get in anywhere so we opted to stay in St Gervais. The 2-bed apartment was reasonably equipped for everything you need for the stay and is a 3 minute walk from the main lift. Price-wise it's about the same as any apartment in the resort, but that's the rub - it's not really a resort. St Gervais is trying hard to be a skiing village but it's just too low and doesn't have the atmosphere - so if just skiing is what it's all about then it's a good place to stay, but if you want to wander round shops in an evening or find restaurants that aren't triple booked, then do what the French do and stay in the valley and drive to the lift. Also St Gervais isn't able to meet the capacity in half term, 40 minute queues at the main lift before 10.30 weren't uncommon and lunch on the mountain or dinner in town wasn't possible without a 48 hour reservation. Still one of the best places to ski so we will be going back but we haven't yet cracked the equation of great skiing and great value, nearly but not quite.
Good location for Ski holiday
emnjneeon 17/01/2016 21:49The apartments are very well located right by the Bettex gondola, hence an easy walk in ski boots in the morning! The town centre is a short drive away or a 10-15 min walk. The town is good for most all supplies, however, there is a much bigger supermarket about 15-20 mins drive away - well worth going to if you have the transport. Our apartment had everything we needed and was perfectly adequate for a weeks skiing.
