Deligtfully friendly and comfortable hotel.
Guy Ron 02/08/2017 18:14The Manoir is a lovely old building set in parkland surrounded by trees and private parking spaces all within a short walking distance of the town. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and spacious. The pleasant light and airy restaurant overlooking the garden next to the open terrace provides three levels of menu plus a plat du jour with locally sourced specialities including superb, freshly caught sea food. The Chef also can create vegetarian dishes by advance request and he does communicate in English which we found most helpful. When we arrived after a long drive our welcome was warm and reassuring and we were very pleased to meet the proprietor and staff team who have recently taken charge of the hotel this season. La Roche Bernand is a pretty historical market town founded by Vikings on the River Villaine which has a small port and a large marina with many sailing boats There are opportunities available to hire boats or to take sailing lessons or to take river cruises to Arzal and Redon. We particularly enjoyed hiking along the river side and exploring the beautiful countryside using route maps from the tourist office. There are a selection of traditional and modern restaurants in the main town, in the port and even 'on board a boat' next to the rock cliffs. The coastline of the Mobihan is spectacular and there are many beautiful beaches and seaside places to visit within a 30 minute drive of the town. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful making every effort to ensure we were both wined and dined, comfortable and secure for the nine nights we enjoyed during this vacation at The Manoir du Rodoir.
I would Say Good, Rather than Very Good
Dandyredon 26/06/2017 21:34I would say good rather than very good, but there isn't a "good" choice on the ratings and I feel it's better than average. This is a pleasant traditional hotel in a lovely setting, with garden areas. It's on the edge of the village, a short walk into the village centre and about 15 minutes walk to the quay, for restaurants and bars. Staff were helpful, and friendly, breakfast was ok. Our room was on the top floor, under the roof and of a good size, with a large bathroom. The floors were creaky but you expect that with a building of this age. The weather was warm and sunny, but not as hot as other areas of France we had just visited. We had a drink in the bar and also out on the terrace and found the rooms to be perfectly cool and comfortable. Our room was in the roof with a small window, so was very hot overnight despite the slight breeze coming through the open window. Being an old building there wasn't any air conditioning, nor a fan. We struggled to sleep mainly because of the heat, and partly because the bed was hard. If you like a very firm bed then you will be fine. I think that we may have been more comfortable and slept well if we had been in a room on a lower floor. If I had been staying for more than 1 night, I would have asked if it was possible to move to a room on a lower floor.
wonderful place to stay
David Bon 17/05/2017 19:58Drive up the driveway to be greater by the charing old manoir, the welcome inside was friendly and shown to our room up a wonderful old staircase. The room was warm and cosy with a good size bathroom. The restaurant and bar were not open that night which was disappointing, but a short trip into gave a choice of fine restaurants. Breakfast in the morning was very good with again a warm welcome in a superb setting. Would stay here again.

a lovely old manoir
marcus con 27/06/2016 08:14This old manoir has bags of charm and character,we received a friendly greeting and were shown to our rooms on the first floor at the front. My room was good sized with twin beds and a good sized bathroom ensuite. Slight road noise.
We had intended to dine at the hotel but were invited out to a friends house for dinner,so our experience was limited to breakfast which was good and served in the charming dining room with its multiplicity of beams.I see the Bentley drivers club have used this hotel and they are renowned for choosing quality hotels. If you want absolute quiet ask for a room at rear.I would stay here again.
