What People are saying

I did not enjoy my stay here, too many things below expectation

Lana M on 07/06/2017 07:18

I miss an expat living in china and visited this place as my intro to shine I Bay for 2 nights in January 017.
I did not like my stay at all, and couldn't wait to leave. After the first day, we drove to the hotel next doors for all meals and forfeited our free buffet breakfast at the Le meridian because that's how much we didn't like it.

I thought this place would have highe international standards but it was very lacking.

Pros
Nice renovated big room. Ours looked onto greenery and other buildings in distance.
Clean room.
Check in staff friendly.
Nice view to ocean from entry foyer
B DJs and pillows comfy
Bathroom good
The end!

Cons
Staff at reception by the bike / activities desk looks totally bore and didn't smile at all. Not even when my child approached the guy with balloons, he couldn't be bothered and just lazily threw them to a colleague to blow up and turn into a flower or dog or whatever it is they were making. Not cool for guests on arrival and especially not kids when you are the ballon person!
Lots of little buildings/shops/cafes along the main foyer. I found the bulk of them useless. I only took advantage of the coffee shop which made great Illy coffee but again, sad looking staff her and right next door to the alley that leads to the toilets. You could smell it from a. Ile away. Totally disgusting and made me take myoffee away. Over the 2 day stay, anything we walked this path, you could smell the toilets.

Long walk and not good pram access to kids club, pool, beach

Kids club was hopeless! No atmosphere. Again another sad looking staff member that did not even bother to make eye contact when I walked in with my kids. She just squeaked at me to get outith my pram even though it was raining lightly. I refused as I didn't want a wet pram. She ignored us for the entire 20min stay. She just sat at her desk looking at her phone and looking bored.
Indoor area is large but facilities not great. The ball pit in climbing area had an unsafe slide pit, art section had a few kids drawings pinned to its expansive walls and then row upon row of empty shelves so it looked deserted. No paper, no pencials, no chalk for the chalk board. Nothing! The floor and tables were dirty and had spills too.
Lego desks were great and so was the outdoor park but due wet we couldn't use.
A kids movie was p,aging for a kid and their mum in an uncomfy setting.
Child needed toilet, they were not clean and no handsoap. I asked the sad girl at desk and she just shurgged. I asked for her phone and requested the front desk get soap to the toilets as it's unhygienic! I left after that and took my grievances to the front desk, summed up as worst kids club experience ever and I have been to many.
They gave my kids pencials and paper to use in room as we were not going back.

Expensive buffet dinner - horrible meat quality. Terrible dessert and sushi. Hardly ate. Only good items were the fresh fruit that was cut up on request and the live Latin band.
Service from 2 ot of about 15 people was good, rest looked sad and or bored. Apart from one man that spoke English service was 2/10.

Buffet breakfast at same place as dinner. I think the cakes and sushi were from previous night al g with a. Umber of other items.
Coffee machines were constantly out of milk so caused delays. Coffee was nice though.
Fresh bread and pastries were nice
Did not enjoy the buffet at all.

The huge Le Meridian signage on beachfront is an eye sore in my honest opinion.
With kids, the walk from our room to the beach was too far.
Not enough shelter or umbrellas and chair for guests when we visited.

Can not recommend this place and will never come back.

Wonderful Stay

We stayed for 4 nights in this beautiful hotel! The hotel might be a little bit older than others in this area, but its still a beautiful resort with stunning views and a mystical environment!
We had a tropical room facing the inner pools and gardens - beautiful and very relaxing!
All staff were very friendly and helpful! A special thanks to the GSM Jan which was extraordinary professional in all requests and questions!
Associates like her make the difference in hotels or resorts like that!
Once again thanks to everyone in the hotel and we will be back!

unforgettable memory

It was a lovely experience, every step, start from check in until the end, every staff in the hotel give me the felling is a home away from home. Everything is focus on the detail from the mindset of the customer. So see you next time.

Hawaii without the crowds

Wayne S on 14/02/2017 23:32

The rooms were 5+star, very large, and had great bathrooms. The beach was awesome, and the waves were good. I bought a boogie board and the rides were great, but there were signs all over saying do not go into the water. Wo wen dang diren wei shenme. i was told the water is dangerous. Most Chinese do not learn how to swim. Their is nothing dangerous for a California boy, and there were no crowds on the waves. They were building a new Westin Hotel right next door, which will add dining options. The local villages were very interesting, but English is not spoken by most in Hainan. We stayed for a week with friends.
My only complaint was that Starwood gave a better deal to our friends (including breakfast) and charged them less, and they only booked in reference to our booking. But that was not the fault of Meridien. I am also a gold Starwood patron, so that was particularly annoying. Without that annoyance, it was definitely 5 star.

Conference Stay

on 15/01/2017 15:33

Recently I was one of a couple of hundred of my colleagues who stayed at the hotel for a work conference. I would like to mention some of the following as good and development points. The first thing is however is a mention on first impressions. I am sorry but they weren't good. But luckily they did change.

On arriving at our bus pick up, one thing that was noticed, the wooden roof looked damaged in places, actually there were little parts missing. But a good point, the singers and band on arrival was a nice touch. Staff were always smiling - great.

One arriving at my room, and also my colleagues rooms, there was a strong feeling and smell of "damp". As if the rooms hadn't had a good dose of fresh air in some time and with the amount of wood everywhere the dampness did smell slightly rotten. This didn't make us feel great and we wanted to go stay at the Westin.

The rooms are large, comfortable beds, good tv channels, large bath and bathrooms. The view from my ground floor balcony was ok...a tropical feel...but a slimy rock pool at the edge wasn't the most attractive and the noise of some very loud frogs kept us awake.

Food was a saving grace. Especially the buffet lunch and breakfast. Good value. Great choices and the waiting staff were very nice and showed great care and help. The Japanese/Korean restaurant was good, quite tasty but also a high price and spending around 1,000 for 6 of us to have a few dishes was a surprise. One negative was one room service order that took over an hour to arrive and had to be chased "we are very busy and your room is far away" neither problem my fault.

Regarding the conference the highlights were room set up, again the food prep, the helpful and welcoming staff that were always nice and the IT support. Great!

My one only disappointment was our final night dinner that was presented on the beach. The food menu was not so great and most foreigners didn't enjoy the choices especially those, like myself, allergic to fish and seafood which only left tofu (no thanks) and chinese veg and cold sticky rice. This was quite a disappointment as the previous party night buffet had had a mix of western and Chinese and was quite enjoyable.

Overall the stay was good. Very good in parts and slight missteps in others. Some very good food. Slightly older style rooms. Great help at the conference. Great staff. Thanks!
