Beautiful view, house could use some work
Gropius12on 10/06/2017 13:44We enjoyed our stay here. The view was absolutely beautiful, with a large, grassy lawn and chairs overlooking water, boats and islands.
The house would be more charming with some work. Our door to the outside area did not actually have a functional lock and the bathroom door had to be forced to close. The bathroom itself was barely large enough to turn around in and would be more functional with a minor upgrade.
Not big into television on vacation, but the one in our room had mostly snowy channels. One of two easily accessible outlets in the room has a broken off plug in it.
There is a small continental breakfast every morning with cereal and a few other items.
Housekeeping was friendly & cleaned the room/bathroom each day.
Liked being in Southwest Harbor vs. Bar Harbor.
Old, comfy, antique lover's paradise.
hikerbabe2016on 26/11/2016 02:30Moorings Inn is old. The floors creak, the stairs are narrow, the windows are single pane, but that's part of the charm of the place.
The complimentary breakfast was complete with a number of nice baked goodies. The coffee was good- you'll find the water for the coffee out on the porch. I would recommend getting to the breakfast early as it can get picked over if you're a late riser.
My room had old, sometimes antique, furniture. I found myself wishing that I had a glass of wine that I could sip whilst lounging on the vintage settee in my own parlor. Yes, my room had a parlor with a writing desk and big comfy chair as well as the settee.
It's not a dump, just not flashy and new. It is simple and Old World/European.
Just the right place
Lance Non 21/10/2016 13:16If you want to feel a peaceful state of mind in a setting right out of Hollywood, then The Moorings in Southwest Harbor is IT! They call it the quiet side of Mt.Desert Island, and it is. Peaceful, serene, slower paced. At chance to truly relax from the worries of life. This quaint Inn is everything to enjoy. Beautiful harbor views, truly nice people, and out of the way of noise and clutter. If you are looking for state of the art amenities, and waited on hand and foot, stick to Bar Harbor. If you want a homey feeling and good conversation, this is it. If I am so lucky to return, here is where I will call home during my stay. Say hello to Lee for me. And when she repeats Bah Hahbah, you know you are in Maine. Oh, yeah, Enjoy the sunrise!
Wow! What a sunrise!
cs2468on 01/10/2016 03:35Woke to lobster boats heading out of harbor to witness a magical sunrise - yes, the rooms are that close to the water. Comfy inn on the water with ample adirondack chairs to see the sunset reflecting on Cadillac Mountain and MDI. Nice quiet side alternative to the Bar Harbor. Second floor rooms are up steep stairs so that's the only caveat. Management aims to please. Dog friendly to boot.
Place is a dump
on 16/09/2016 00:43This place is a dump. The photos of the rooms were either not the same place or changed in some way. Our room is an addition, converted from a mobile home
The bathroom is small, unfinished and does not even afford privacy from the outside. The furniture is old, mismatched and cheap. The setting is quiet and pretty.
