What People are saying

The Queen Is Dead

Arcturusredon 21/08/2017 12:33

Let's start with the positive. The rooms were good, as we had two sea view / lighthouse rooms. The location means there is a walk to the beach, although it's not far, it's not as close as the website photos would have it.
As for the cons, the hotel car park is very small. you need to get lucky to park here. The outdoor pool is pretty grim, too. On the website it appears to be setting high above the sea. It's actually stuck next to the tiny car park. Not a place to spend any hours of your day.
Then there's the hotel itself. The rooms are wrapped around an indoor open space, which looks pretty, but is dead. And I mean soullessly dead.
When they do try to inject some life into the place, it's terrible. We had a teenage DJ playing incongruous house music remixes at 7:30pm on a Tuesday night in the central auditorium. Very odd in this setting. Add that the drinks are ridiculously expensive (7 euros for a small apple juice?) you can see why most people flee the bar / restaurant area at the first opportunity and head elsewhere.
At 8.30pm on a Wednesday night I was the only person in this vast central hall! My pictures are below. It's a shame. If they got a jazz piano player and served some reasonably priced drinks it could be an upmarket destination. Instead it's a ghost of a venue. That can only be down to bad management.
Sadly, Le Regina / The Queen is dead.

4 star with a 5 star price tag

Mattje7on 13/08/2017 15:52

There's good and bad. Hotel is situated on the cliff face, set back a bit from the restaurants and shops of Biarritz. Anyone reading this now would not be surprised as many reviewers mention this. Practically though, it means 20 minutes in / out for lunch, dinner or the beach.

Rooms are pleasant, however be aware when booking to try and specify which floor you want to be on. Having paid more for an ocean view room (600 Euros a night) we were disappointed to be on the first floor, basically with a road view with the ocean on the horizon. We were moved during he stay, only floor up, but it made a big difference.

Staff are excellent and accommodating, given what they have to work with. However the 5 star element is completely lacking. A few examples, the pool area (while nice) is not maintained / cleaned. Though not that crowded, towels, glasses and plates are everywhere and it can be difficult to ascertain whether it is just neglect or people returning to sun lounger later. You'll generally need to ask for everything, including your room to be serviced or towels for the pool.

If I were returning to Biarritz for an extended stay, I'd definitely stay in an apartment closer to town as I feel I'd get the same level of service. If for a few nights, then I would consider the property only if I could be guaranteed a decent room for the price.

A week with my kids in le Regina

girrepon 22/07/2017 18:11

I stayed with my kids at the Regina for one week in July. The hotel is really nice and clean. The staff is very helpful and keen to help. One little damper is that there carpet on the ground, and there is little room for storage despite the comfortable size of the rooms. Wifi is available everywhere in the hotel and easy to access. There is a nice swimming pool, the beach is a few hundred meters away, towels are available for both. It is a very nice place to stay and we would recommend the hotel.

Glamorous Choice!

I led a group of 20 Americans on a travel competition and our first stop was Biarritz. And the Le Regina was the first impression that my company made on our guests and it was a doozy. The hotel is eye candy in the first degree- from the regal architecture outside to the high ceilinged lobby aa with the cool surfboards as art collection. The rooms were well appointed and the staff was helpful at every juncture. The breakfast was bountiful and delicious.

Glorious Art Deco splendour

Absolutely gorgeous decor at this hotel. Splashed out for 2 nights but was worth it for the design alone. The vast atrium was breathtaking and the clever design from the carpets, to the gold sofas, from the ironwork to the beautifully covered dressmakers dummies just made it so special. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. I would absolutely love to return here.
