Great place for stopover. Restaurant food quirky

Have stayed here about 5 times but always on Sundays on trips south to Carcassonne.Restaurant serves small selection on Sundays.Our recent stay was on a Monday and there were only 8 guests eating here.The food was gastronomic but not to our taste.Very odd combinations and quite petite servings.I would stay again but not eat here.No breakfast is worth 19euro per person.

Excellent Lunch stop

We stopped here for lunch on an excursion from La Rochelle going to Saintes & Château de la Roche Courbon.

Lunch was served for the party of 24 (plus guide & driver) in the main restaurant, which had lovely view out into the garden

With the lunch, we were given one small glass of wine (choice of red or white). At the start of lunch, there was a Petit Bouchon (Cucumber Soup). This was followed by Salmon, Beef in a wine sauce with beetroot plus (delivered late to the table) roasted potatoes. The meal finished after 1¾ hours with Cafe Gourmande (coffee plus pastries)

A real surprise in the middle of an out of town shopping area, though easy access to Saintes center and the surrounding area. Lovely hotel, beautiful room and lovely gardens. Very friendly staff. A very good restaurant. The only let down was the breakfast which was over priced at 19 euros for a limited buffet.

We chose this hotel because it was recommended on the "viamichelin" route planner site and was a halfway point of our journey. The hotel was lovely, well located, only a few kilometers from the motorway, we were well received and we had pre-arranged for us both to have relaxing massages before dining which were excellent. The restaurant, like the rest of the hotel was chic and spacious and we were well looked after, however the food itself was unremarkable, the starter was fairly original, for the mains we both had "supreme de volaille", my wife was pleased enough with her meal, but I am sure that the chicken was cooked in a water bath, I know that it is a surefire way of guaranteeing that the meat will be tender and moist but when overused it can detract from the quality and nature, I think they are a very useful tool in the preparation of meat but not always the ideal process.The meal was a reasonable price at 25 euros for two courses but the wines were excessively priced. The hotel boasted of its "gourmet" breakfast, we were disappointed with both the service in the morning and the choice, at 18 euros per head it was surprising that they would charge an extra 1.50 for a boiled egg, 2.00 for a fried egg and 3.50 for bacon, that was if you could find someone to serve you.I have honestly had better breakfasts in one of the budget chain hotels. Would we return? Unfortunately I do not think so.

Top class stopover

We booked this hotel as a single night stopover on the way to Spain.The hotel is very convenient to the motorway ,very easy to get to.The parking is very easy and secure.The rooms are a bit on the small side but none the less comfortable.What surprised us most was the quality of the dining room ,the food was really excellent This is first class food at really good prices
Full marks to this establishment ,try it if you are heading to Spain
