What People are saying

Great view

Øivind Son 10/08/2016 19:03

This is a hotel for people who like to stay in the rural areas. A while after we left the motorway, we were wondering if our GPS was wrong, but finally we arrived at this utterly charming place. The rooms are quite average, but the scenery is great. Sleep quality not so good because of heat and no air condition. The restaurant is absolutely topp class. Dinner in the evening was worth a Michelin star. Breakfast was a disappointment; very French and very light. Croissants, baguettes, jam, coffee/tea and juice. Slow internet connection.

Spectacular meal - Spectacular views

We were recommended Le Saint Cyr by the people who own the Gite we were staying at which is only a few kilometres from Montmelard and we were not disappointed - the view is breathtaking and from start to finish the food was 'impeccable' - there was something for everyone (foie gras and 'ris de veau' for starters to give you an idea) including children all accompanied by lovely wines from their quite extensive wine list with excellent service and knowledgeable staff who were happy to make recommendations - we thoroughly enjoyed our meal there and wouldn't hesitate to return or to recommend it.

Not a place for couples without children

Beautiful panoramic view obstructed by the long row of plastic childrens’ toys, swings, slides, etc. and indeed this is a family restaurant/hotel. We took a table on the terrace (built just next to the car parking – a little too close as families opened and closed car doors throughout our meal. The food was good and well-presented. I like the option of having a fish course in the menu. The “jarret de veau” was very tender and the “foie gras” was excellent. The desserts were not great – the crème brûlée was mousse-like and had a very sweet, sticky cookie on top. The waitress seemed a little confused or distracted. I would say overall, a good meal but too many children running around to have a relaxing meal.

Spectacular setting, wonderful meal and nice room at Le St. Cyr

Taking a chance on booking in to this small hotel in an out of the way little ville between Bourges and Lyon, and using a combination of directions from their website, inaccurate Google maps, and dead reckoning, my spouse and I arrived late in the afternoon, happy and relieved to have found it.

We received a most cordial welcome from the proprietor and put in our reservation for dinner and settled into our room.

While spartan, a very nice ensuite bathroom with a great shower, and was spotlessly clean, but the spectacular feature was the magnificent view from our window. Just out the window was a bucolic scene of several young Charolais cattle grazing while a hawk was on station for small rodents in the field. Looking past the field gave perhaps a five mile view of fields, and hills, with houses and small villages sprinkled in the folds. Needless to say, we never felt like viewing the wall mounted flat screen TV.

The restaurant offered the same delightful view as our room and it quickly filled up as we commenced ordering. My choice was a superb little piece of beef cooked "au point" and a delicious but inexpensive red. The artisanal bread was a delight. The wait staff was very cordial and helpful.

While our room was above the restaurant and small bar, nothing disturbed what turned out to be the quietest night we spent during our entire two weeks in Europe.

Breakfast was the traditional petit dejeuner one wishes for: fresh baguette, jam, juice, and strong coffee and hot milk.

A stay at this hotel and restaurant rewarded our search on the backroads of the Bourgogne.

After a tough day driving this was a perfect middle of nowhere Beaujolais stop over. I arrived to a lovely welcome, had a nice glass of wine in their bar and took a room with a fantastic head to toe window. The walls are a bit thin mind but I slept well after a superb meal of fois gras then a steak. Great service and a great stop-over. A bit further from Maçon than I expected however no complaints. Buy your croissants from the patisserie in the next village towards Maçon and buy double what you think you want (can't recall village name). Will try and go back for sure.
