Does it Deserves its Reputation??
Wiltshire_Ianon 10/08/2016 21:57We're fans of Logis hotels and are often guided by the Logis symbols, this one having 3 cooking pots- so the food should be very good. Like others we did struggle to find the hotel at first, but when we did we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. The room was spacious and had everything we needed, the staff even went out of their way to ensure the TV worked properly. The room was comfortable and adequate, but then we really came for the food. We went down to the restaurant: simply furnished but with a rustic style and were shown to our table. The hotel really is in the middle of nowhere and yet even for a mid-week day the restaurant was very busy. The menu was based around choices of 1 to 3 courses all at the same price per course regardless of choice. We chose our 3 courses and from then on, for some reason, we seemed to be made to feel like outsiders, perhaps the British aren't welcome? The first bottle of wine we ordered wasn't available. Our second choice wine was delivered to the table, opened and just left, we were not invited to taste, unlike other tables. After a short wait our entrees were served, but we appeared to be the only table not offered an 'amuse bouche'. At no point during the meal were we asked if everything was OK and as the following courses were delivered service was carried out practically in silence. It was quite uncomfortable. The food itself was, in my opinion, good rather than great. While there was nothing to complain about equally I think the restaurant relies too much on style than substance. Breakfast was unusually served at the table, not a buffet, which was a pleasant change, but not the hotel's Labrador begging at the table until it was shut outside. Overall I can't rate our experience more than average.
Charming but a bit worn out
Offwego2016on 02/08/2016 21:16I actually have fond memories of our stay here, because the people who run the place are really very nice and very helpful, but the rooms are pretty basic. We had a family room with two very creaky beds which were quite uncomfortable. It was a Monday so the restaurant was closed (a shame, as it has a great reputation and is probably the best for miles around). We had breakfast outside in the morning, and the breakfast was lovely with warm hot chocolate for our little girl and good coffee. It's a budget hotel, in our experience when you get out of the cities and the reach of the chain hotels, budget often means "old", so don't expect anything new or modern.
But it was a lovely building full of character and charming staff/owner.
Time out of reality
yewilliamson 06/07/2016 18:11If you want to experience peace and tranquillity with a sense of going back in time, this is the place for you. We felt we had stepped into a bygone age. Don't expect any flashy modernities - it would be totally out of place here. We fell asleep to the sounds of nature, including the goats' bells as they munched their way through the surrounding fields. We sat there in total silence with a glass of chilled wine in front of us, feeling suspended in time.
Mr Paroix was a gentle host- nothing was too much trouble for him. A memorable visit - an oasis of calm in this crazy world we live in.
Charming small hotel with great food
yanasimon 22/08/2014 19:22Stayed for 1 night en route back from holiday and it was a really pleasant ending to our break.
The place is, indeed, somewhat hard to find just using the postcode and the navigation system, but the instructions on the hotel's website make a valuable addition to the sat nav and we had no trouble finding it.
The hotel is located in the middle of a beautiful countryside, probably ideally located for country walks and hiking in the pyrenees.
The rooms are simple and somewhat dated, and, unfortunately, the water in the shower tends to vary a lot in temperature, making for an exciting showering experience :) It was great that the owners were thoughtful enough to have well-put netting on the windows and there was not a single mosquito in the room, guaranteeing undisturbed rest with an open window in the middle of August.
The dinner at the restaurant is worth a separate mention as it was simply wonderful, and good value for money too.
Overall a very nice stay and, if we're ever in the area again, we'll try to stay there or at least stop by for a meal.
Disappointing
SCBB30on 18/11/2012 13:46We had high expectations of this hotel/restaurant but were sorely disappointed. To begin with, the place is extremely hard to find. We had a detailed map but it didn’t help. We drove down a narrow track for several kilometres before giving up and returning to Sevignacq-Meyracq. There we found some friendly locals who not only gave us directions but led us in their van down the same narrow track. We would never have found the hotel without their assistance; there were no obvious signposts to an establishment well off the beaten track. When we checked in, we were particularly peeved to find that the young woman in charge had passed us earlier on the track, where we had stopped to check our map, and hadn’t bothered to stop and offer help.
The pleasant rural ambience was spoilt by a rowdy bunch of macho Frenchmen who seemed to be having a boys’ weekend away. The hotel’s proprietor (M. Paroix) was conspicuous by his absence and we had the feeling that we were being handled by the B-Team. The one really positive aspect of our stay was the food which was excellent. However there was no house wine available and we had the distinct impression that the staff were prepared to fob us off with anything on the wine list rather than making genuine recommendations.
Our room was OK but nothing special and thankfully, the rowdy guys seemed to have worn themselves out before our bedtime and we had a good night’s sleep.
