What People are saying

Recently refurbished, small scale, clean, nice hotel, in the new part of an old 17 century building.

Haje1946_11on 16/07/2017 20:02

This small cosy and quaint hotel is located in one of the two adjacent ancient 17th century buildings in the center of town, one a very nice restaurant, Le Patio, the other a small modern hotel with very nice rooms (no airconditioning) situated around a patio on two floors, as far as I could see no elevator, the new buildings blending in architecturally well with the old building in front that housed the reception and the bar, the upper floors not in use as hotel rooms.
Accessing the hotel was a little tricky for those who don't know how, one must go around the hotel, park one's car either along the sides the narrow backstreet, or if a reservation has been made on the paid (€ 10/night) parking on the right side of that small backstreet opposite the hotel.
We liked it so much that we've already booked our next stay this coming September.

Good hotel in great location with friendly staff

We stayed one night at this historic coaching inn in the centre of the town in easy walking distance of the ramparts and the market square. The first room we were allocated had a really bad smell, perhaps the drains, but we were immediately given another room when we let reception know. Rooms are small but adequate with a powerful shower, a separate toilet and a very comfortable bed. Our room at the back of the hotel overlooked a small and very quiet road, where you can also park for free. Breakfast was truly excellent with a wonderful choice of hot and cold foods including a delicious local cheese, Sable de Wissant. I can't speak highly enough of the staff who were friendly and helpful.

Overnight stay

We stayed one night in this hotel after booking le Patio on booking .com and receiving confirmation back that all was fine. When we arrived it appeared that the hotel we booked was closed and we were directed next door to check in. There was no explanation of the changed rooms and we were given a room at the back of the hotel and not adjoining the main building. The room was pretty tired and very grubby around the skirting boards but overall adequate. There was no wardrobe at all so nowhere to hang up clothes, we had to drape them over a settee? No room in the bathroom for toiletries and when we used the shower the hose came away from the tap so after spraying water everywhere we manage to jam it back on, this happened twice when trying to turn up the shower pressure. WE paid 9 euro for parking in a back area that didn't appear very safe, alternatively you could park in the square for free if it wasn't market day or buy a permit from the chemist for other bays, we were not told any of this when booking so opted for what we thought was the only option and paid the parking.
Breakfast was also pretty awful, the tables were already laid out with 2 croissants in a basket, I actually thought they must be some king of wholemeal variety as very very dark brown, then checked out some other tables and realised they were just burnt, they should not have been served in that condition. There was also aneed orange squeezer where you were expected to get the oranges and squeeze them yourself! After trying 4 bits of orange and having about a centre metre of juice in the glass we gave up. Surely this should be something pre squeezed by staff? I also need to comment on a coffee machine on display that didn't work so you had to make the coffee then use the machine to add milk. Faulty equipment needs to be kept out of sight until fixed. Overall we were very disappointed with paying 10 euro for self service. One finer point, there is homemade jam sold in reception...lovely touch, but why isn't it served in the breakfast room too, instead of supermarket jam? All the hotels we saw in town were on the old side so maybe this was of equal standard but below our expectation. The town itself is lovely with a great walk around the Ramparts. We also found a lovely restaurant around the corner for an evening meal as the menu in the hotel was very limited for vegetarian. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

A short visit with friends

Charming Hotel and Restaurant in the middle of a wonderful clean, picturesque French town with ample facilities.
We were a party of 3 mature couples visiting for an over night half board. The hotel is quaint and quirky with non-standard rooms but all providing adequate facilities.
The staff were friendly and informative and the meals wonderfully French. Dinner was enjoyed in the adjacent restaurant and breakfast in a dining room off the courtyard, al fresco available. One of the best buffet style breakfasts I have experienced.
The hotel has very limited secure paid parking but there is ample adjacent on road parking with a large free car park in Place du General de Gauille, about 30M away.

The town has a grand choice of Bars, Bistros and Restaurants
Walks around the ramparts have spectacular views of the countryside.
