What People are saying

Loved snorkeling with fish & turtles

LindaDintyon 13/08/2017 07:10

We enjoyed our 4 night stay, but I think 4 nights was too long and we got quite bored as L'Escapade Island is very small and not much to do at all apart from swimming (or renting a kayak, sailing etc). The staff were lovely and we managed very well despite the language barrier, several staff spoke good English. However we were disappointed about the lack of information or books to read for tourists (especially in English) and also found food & drink to be VERY expensive, even with the 2 for 1 deal. In fact we found New Caledonia to be overall very expensive.

Come for the day - not to stay

Tonight is our first night at L'Escapade. I would never usually post a review until after the trip. Tonight, my disappointment is fuelling my need to review immediately. Arrival to the island was seamless, the service provided by the boat attendant who I believe is also one of the reception staff, was wonderful. The island itself is picturesque and beautiful. We're staying in a garden bungalow which happens to be more on the beach side, which is stunning. The room is quite old but clean. The bathroom on the other hand, is awful. My wife has actually said she does not want to shower for the next 4 nights. The WC is basically on the board walk and completely lacks privacy. All things considered, it's probably 3 star or below accommodation, however it's clean and a traditional style decor which we like. All water sports, including unmotorised, comes with a fee, the most I've ever had to pay in any south pacific resort. Expect to pay around $30 aud for 60mins kayak use. Upon arrival, we discovered that the dinner buffet (the single option for dinner on the island) starts at 7pm. It was a long wait to 7pm after a busy day and we eagerly awaited a delicious buffet dinner. My God, what an ATROCITY. After doing a round of the buffet and returning to our seats with some measly bits of food, my wife and I actually looked at one another and laughed. Approx $75 Aus per person for unshelled prawns, uncooked chicken, day old lettuce and soggy potatoes. Drinks are excluded - even water. My wife is a fussy eater and couldnt find one thing to eat. She ended up having fruit from the dessert section for dinner. They really have you by the balls with this aspect of the resort, as you have no other choice of eatery. I shudder to think what the breakfast buffet will look like. The island is beautiful, I would certainly recommend a visit, but don't stay the night if you can help it.

Over the water bungalow is highly recommended

Haphongluon 28/07/2017 00:51

Our family (2 teenager boys) stayed in an over water bungalow couple of weeks ago and had a great time. I originally booked 1 over the water bungalow and 1 garden bungalow. However I wanted the boys in the same bungalow with us and contacted the resort for the extra bed option. We ended up paying almost the same price for a garden bungalow to have 2 extra beds set up in the living room and it worked out well. Despite of negative reviews on winter weather, snake, food and resort itself, we had wonderful time. We had beautiful sunsets and swam with turtle every day (you need to snorkel early in the morning in high tide to see turtle and like many other reviews it was a great experience. I saw many more turtle here while snorkeling than both my time in Hawaii put together. The turtles stay over the furthest bungalows so if you book these bungalow, you can just snorkel around your bungalow. The water was cold but it's still OK to snorkel. I had spring suit on for early snorkel and my husband and kids didn't need it. The resort itself is not luxury 5 star in any way but the location for the over the water bungalow and the sunset is definitely 5 stars. The breakfast and dinner buffet are OK, nothing to complain or compliment, breakfast buffet closing down around 9:30am for staff to set the tables for lunch so you might want to come earlier. The walk around the island is highly recommended and we did kayaking racing with the kids which was fun. I'm very scared of the snakes but only saw 2 snakes and they were very shy and we were quite excited to see them. The staffs are nice and helpful. I highly recommend the over water bungalow. Thanks the staff at the resorts for making our stay beautiful.

GLP Wifi access

Roz Won 21/07/2017 05:08

Terribly disappointed with the advice given by hotel staff about wifi access card. Paid cpf 7000 (approx A$85.00) for wifi access across all GLP hotels including Nouvata where we were to be staying later in our holiday. They were WRONG!!!!!! The card does not work. Contacted IT support and they advised they were on different platforms. Spoke with Nouvata desk; they said it was not their problem. Spoke with L'Escapade ; they said "sorry for my colleagues' mistake" but they would not do anything. For an issue they created, they were incredibly unsympathetic and unwilling to provide any recompense for the cost outlaid and inconvenience caused. For a supposedly reputable hotel group, you would expect that staff were adequately trained and would not make promises on matters on which they clearly don't have the knowledge. Cpf 7000 wasted. Disappointing lack of customer service.

Turtle Watchng.

The highlight of our stay was the fabulous experience of seeing turtles in their natural habitat. Our bungalow was right on the beach so that we could enjoy the sunset. The staff were very friendly and were gracious in our attempts to speak French.
