What People are saying

Overpriced and overrated

h0nestreviews1on 27/06/2017 17:40

£80 per night per room is daylight robbery. The rooms are average, the breakfast was inedible and the staff rude and unwillingly to listen to honest polite feedback. I strongly recommend you stay elsewhere.

My partner and I stayed at the Llywyn Onn Guest House last weekend as a birthday treat. Having read the reviews online I felt sure that while the room rates were expensive, they would be worth it for a treat. I couldn't have been more wrong.

We arrived at 8pm, and no one was there to check us in, our room key was on the noticeboard outside. When we went in our room, I was really disappointed as it looked nothing like the photos online. It was tired and littered with signs from the owners saying things like "Don’t eat takeaways in the room", "Close the bathroom door when showering", "Switch the fridge on inside the unit not at the wall" etc etc. Nothing too bad, just a bit unfriendly and patronising.

The next morning, we went down for breakfast and after reading the online glowing reviews, I thought the guest house would redeem itself. But no, the breakfast was by far the worst I have ever had. The bacon was dried out and chewy, the sausage was the cheap type with a paste-y texture, my "poached" eggs was grey and the yolk hard boiled, the mushrooms were swimming in oil and the tomato was powdery. There was nothing on my plate that was worth eating and I am not a fussy eater!

We were only staying 2 nights so on the second morning we decided to have breakfast at MacDonald’s (I virtually never eat at MacDonald’s, but that’s how bad the guest house breakfast was!). On checking out I politely explained to the lady who worked at the guest house that we had been disappointed with the breakfast and therefore were going to eat elsewhere so could we please have some money off. Her reaction was to tell me a was talking a load of rubbish and to stop lying. She was so rude and confrontational. She dealt with the situation in the worst way possible and then begrudgingly knocked £10 off the price. I still felt ripped off!

Excellent venue, great service, brilliant location. Definitely recommend it highly.

Lovely room, overlooking the hills and reservoir. It had been recently refurbished with modern, solid oak furniture and excellent bathroom - shower over bath and lovely toiletries.
Extensive choice at breakfast and served by attentive pleasant staff who create a wonderful welcoming atmosphere.

An excellent stop over

We stayed one night only and were very satified. Our room on the first floor was spacious and cosy. The bathroom was top and the whole place very clean. Breakfast was good and served with a smile. Very nice lady at reception. MERCI

Charming & Comfortable

We stayed 3 nights in charming Room 2 on the first floor at the front of the house, overlooking the lovely front garden (with hares grazing) and the reservoir.

Our room was of a good size and very comfortable with 2 nice chairs from which to sit and enjoy the view.

The bathroom was warm and newly renovated and quite swish, with ample hot water and nice touches like tissues, face washers and good products (Out of Eden). It was nice to have a soak in the tub after a long walk in the brecon beacons.

We really think that the B&B's website doesn't show it at its best and should be updated with current (& better quality) photos.

Wi-fi was available in the room but was slow so we used our mobile phones for data (no problem with reception on EE nor O2).

Moyra was a lovely host and we enjoyed our chats with her in the afternoon and her assistance in planning out the next day's sightseeing. The in-room folio had a list of recommendations on where to eat, we tried 2 of these out, both less than 10 minutes drive from the B&B. Most of the Brecon Beacons sites were a short drive away, including the very popular walk to the summit of Pen y Fan.

Breakfast was cooked to order and was great with excellent service.

We would defiitely stay here again when in the area.

Comfortable stay

Had 2 nights in May, very clean and lovely room and breakfast good but second day bit hurried as cooked meal brought when eating cereal but was tasty. Two flood lights shone into bedroom window at night and went off early hours of morning but a pleasant stay.
