Allegro con brio
LaPadronaon 17/06/2014 14:58Piazze is a speck. A sweet dot of a hamlet between the spa town of San Casciano di Bagni and Cetona, the Litchfield of SE Tuscany. And within this typically lovely town lies a not-so-typical little hotel, Locanda Toscanini. The love child of a fantastic couple --she, American journalist and he, Italian architect--is a happily eclectic menage of wit, whimsy, great service and sensible prices. From the moment you arrive, you feel welcome. At home...even if the former padrone was the legendary Arturo Toscanini.
What a delicious relief to stay in a room that was not like all the others. What a wicked change of pace to find owners brave and confident enough to buck the "we're too cool to be colorful" monotony that one continually finds in boutique hotels across the globe. Locanda Toscanini is colorful, warm, spacious, personal, interesting.
Maestro Arturo would have approved.
Beatiful, friendly and quiet place

Magical Locanda Toscanini
Phyllis Con 28/06/2013 14:43I can't say enough about this beautiful, magical locanda in Piazze, Tuscany! The owner Courtney Walsh is a gem of a person and the staff Kristina and Linda are so lovely and sweet and helpful. We got to stay in Toscanini's suite--was an incredible treat for us. Lovely rooms, charming, very well-appointed, all the amenities and yet kept a rustic charm to them. The breakfast room is sunlit and airy and the breakfasts are to die for--with homemade cakes, fruit, delicious coffee and really anything that you want made to order! We wandered around this lovely town for a few days, just in a state of sunlit serenity. We even wrote a song about it:
"Molte Grazie" !!!! Highly highly recommended.
Beautiful locanda with very helpful staff
linaluzon 25/05/2013 19:24Though we had requested the room on the main floor, we ended up in upper rooms because of the mouldy smell in the room on the main floor (as I´m quite sensitive). All of the rooms we saw on the upper floors were beautiful, and airy and exquisitely decorated. The Toscanini suite with its two rooms and balcony was gorgeous - we spent two nights there. In the evening we would hang out in the salon downstairs listening to Toscanini and sipping wine - it was so tranquil, at time even too tranquil, as we were the only ones in the building. The staff were wonderful, doing all they could to ensure we were comfortable and had a pleasant stay, and breakfasts were excellent. Highly recommended.
Dreams certainly do come true
merrybrook11on 11/05/2012 19:56An Italian tour, vagabond-style, for "just we two" peaked at this beautifully restored, lovingly tended property in the little hill town of Piazze, near Cetona. Comfort, superb hospitality, and unobtrusive modern conveniences have brought the historic inn back to vibrant life. While the restaurant is closed indefinitely, others are available via short walks in the tiny town - be sure to have the staff check first if they are open. Personnel are competent, willing, and very welcoming -- one person (who is affiliated with but not employed by the locanda) is bilingual and quite helpful for any English-speaking guests who are not comfortable trying their Italian linguistic luck. In keeping with its name, the locanda's theme is musical -- specifically, that of Arturo Toscanini, who summered in this property for years while seeking relief from debilitating arthritis. The "apartment" (a suite on the upper floor) remains much as it was when Toscanini himself inhabited it in his later years. Breakfasts in the radiant, sunlit area are abundant with homemade Tuscan baked delicacies, omelets to order, cold cuts and cheeses, and plentiful quantities of coffee, tea and juices. If you are fortunate enough to visit while the owners and renovators of the property are on site, you will receive a doubly hearty and warm welcome from them personally. In brief, there truly is nothing more perfect that one could wish for, even if the dreams of just such an experience have been taking shape for decades.
