after a long day driving on the Costa Rica roads, we arrived in this little paradise.
The room are just exceptional, we stayed enjoying the view on the ocean each sunset

The restaurant is excellent and the service is just perfect, the owner loves what he does and you can feel this.

Perfectly located to visit the area

Ocean is about 20 min walking....it s almost a private beach ;-)

Amazing sunsets, great food, but very close to nature

I find reviewing eco lodges very difficult. So much of what you experience varies by what you expect or can tolerate. The drive into Ylang Ylang is rough, so you need to be confident doing a bit of gravel road and steep hills. We had a large 4x4 so there was no issue. It's also quite tucked away so I would advise satnav - google worked fine.
There are several beautifully built lodges all with amazing views, and a large reception and restaurant lodge by the excellent pool.
The lodges are on two levels, which means you make the most of those views, but are far from insect proof - hence my comment at the beginning. When we went to bed we were surprised (and entertained) to find that three of the local vampire bats also called our lodge home, and flew harmlessly around for a couple of minutes before crawling out of the top of the balcony door. The advice of the management is to leave these doors open to allow the bats free access at night. Being Costa Rica there was also a fair number of Howler Monkeys around which provided a suitably jungly soundtrack through the hours of darkness.
There is a chef on site who cooks a varying set meal each evening, and our's was excellent, with fresh sea bass straight from the fishing boat. You can also self-cater after a fashion as each lodge has a sink and fridge.
So - the lodge is excellent if you don't mind the wildlife, but some people may be challenged to the point of sleepless nights.

Paradise

We did a trip to Costa Rica with my family, and changed of places every two days.
Our favourite hostel is inevitably THIS ONE !!
It is located in the jungle, 5-10 minutes far from the beach by car.
The lodges are wonderful, built with wood, they are really charming !
The installations respect the environment. You have a balcony and a terrace on each lodge.
The owner is very nice and funny, he has a beautiful parrot who sometimes speaks!
A little attraction that can't be missed !
The main "building" of the hostel is where you can eat and relax (a TV with a lot of dvds!!), it's all open on the outside, and especially on the swimming pool.
The meals done by the chief are amazing !!

If you want to relax, chill and listen to the very noises of the jungle, definitely go there!

Perfect remote jungle paradise

We absolutely loved our stay at Ylang Ylang. It truly is a magical little paradise and was perfect for celebrating my 40th birthday. There are 5 two story all wood bungalows that reminded me of elegant little tree houses. The bungalows are open air and immaculate. I was worried about bugs and monkeys getting in but we left the windows and doors wide open all day and night and were fine. Lovely balcony with rocking chairs on upper level and lower level has a great porch with hammocks. The grounds and pool were wonderful and the private beach (although a bit of a walk) was gorgeous. Oliver is the owner and was the perfect host. He was very accommodating with every request. The staff were all very nice and friendly, especially Edwin. Breakfast was great and they also have a fixed menu dinner every night and the food is wonderful. There are two other places to eat close by as well. The monkeys (I believe they were howler) like to get loud at dusk and dawn but it's pretty fun to watch and listen to them. There is also a parrot that stops by now and then. Make sure you have an SUV vehicle to get there because the roads are pretty rough (rough gravel and potholes)but it is well worth the effort. We traveled to 4 different parts of Costa Rica and Ylang Ylang was our favorite. If you are looking for a remote romantic little paradise, you will not be dissapointed!
