Rooms have recent renovations--bathrooms are nice, and location is great for area sites. Hoteliers get a poor rating, which gives it the average rating. We checked in at 9 p.m. for a 1-night stay. The desk attendant called an hour later to ask us for payment. So I got dressed and went downstairs to make the payment. Don't know if they were worried we'd skip out since we opted out of breakfast. The next morning, as we took a few things to the car, the manager/owner held a printout of our online room reservation and said we’d been undercharged for the room. The night attendant had given us a lower rate, since we’d reserved a room for four, but there were only two of us. Fine--we paid the difference. We told him that we were going out but would be back to pick up more things in the room. He asked us if we couldn’t clear the room, so that the cleaning lady could leave early. NOT FINE as the reservation specified checkout wasn’t until 10:30 am, and we wanted to stash things in the room instead of in the car. He conceded only when we pointed it out on the same reservation sheet he’d waved in front of us. Lame. We stayed here because of nearby hiking but would’ve preferred a place with a more consistent hotelier.

We have used the Fontaine many times in the past. The management has recently changed and not, it would appear, for the better.
The young male waiter has a poor attitude to service. The wine and water we ordered did not appear - the proprietor ended up bringing it to the table after prompting. The bill however, appeared before the coffee we had ordered!. Like another comment on this site, my profiteroles had not been thawed.
A beautifully located auberge, which is in danger of losing business through lack of attention to customers. As we live close by, we will give it one more chance to improve its service.

We like this hotel and area so much we made a third visit, so I shall not say much as I have covered it already, Rain this time stopped any use of the terrace on both nights we stayed. The cheaper and more expensive menus in the restaurant were excellent, with the restaurant more or less full, although only 2 or 3 couples were staying. There is no Wifi, and the connection via the mains using an adapter (only suitable if you have a PC) rarely works and then only for simple apps such as email. The nearby wildlife park is well worth a visit.

Autoire is a lovely village to visit with some fine walks near it and the Gouffre de Padirac a very short drive away. The Auberge de la Fontaine, we found, was just missing something. It was a cold April weekend but the heating had been turned off. They were preparing for the summer season and were more interested in erecting the wooden terrace than in greeting us. This was strange as a Logis de France normally is very welcoming. But we hardly rated a hello.
The hotel advertised it had internet in the rooms. We were given a box but when we reported that we got a connection but no internet the patron shrugged and said nobody else had this problem. We stayed two nights and he asked three or four times if we had got internet - but never did anything to resolve the problem.
The dinner on the first night was a disappointment. On the second night we went for the more expensive menu and that was good. So go for that.
We only met la patronne in the mornings and she was a much warmer personality.

This was our second visit as we liked the hotel, the food there and area so much last year. Picturesque hotel set in a small warm sandstone Dordogne village. Like last year we were able to have one diiner on the flower bedecked terrace and then one inside because of rain. This is an hotel we will visit again. This year we had a good sized en-suite room facing out over the narrow but quiet main street with a tiny balcony - very French, with swallows whizzing in and out of the building opposite and swifts screaming round. Their wine in pitchers was very good quality, and the diners memorable. Internet via the mains and an adapter is erratic and no WiFi.
