Lookaway Inn, perfect location
Anne Gon 30/05/2017 21:36My daughter's wedding was May 27. since we have not lived in the area long, not only were the majority of our guests from out of state, I did not have a large enough space for my daughter and all 9 bridesmaids to get ready for the wedding. The Lookaway Inn was positively perfect! My daughter, myself, most of the bridesmaids, and a few friends stayed at the Inn Friday night, having everyone together made our morning flow smoothly and was appreciated by the photographer (not having to wait for everyone to arrive for the wedding morning pictures). The rooms are beautiful, roomy and comfortable. The Inn was a perfect location, minutes from downtown Augusta and mostly anything our guests needed or wanted to visit during their stay. The Inn and grounds are kept in impeccable condition, extremely clean! The courtyard was a perfect gathering space for us to relax and visit the night before the wedding. I cannot say enough about the owners and staff, not only have they done an amazing job restoring the Inn (decorated flawlessly), but they could not have been nicer or more accommodating to our friends and family! They truly went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable, and made my daughter's wedding day very special. I highly recommend both the Lookaway Inn and the Rosemary Inn located just across the street.
Just fine
SG Ton 23/05/2017 14:31I have stayed at Lookaway Inn several times over the past 5 years or so. Accommodations are just what one would expect from a non-corporate independente
hotel: unique, charming and unpretentious. The continental breakfast is more than sufficient; it is self-service with ample choice of fresh breads and bagels, instant Quaker oatmeal, orange juice, refrigerated fruits, and other tasty fare. The rooms are clean and attractive. The concierge does not live on site, so after business hours there is an emergency number one can contact. I have never had a problem and did not feel bereft after the concierge left. I will continue staying here when I visit friends and family in North Augusta and Augusta.
Not sure it should be categorized as a B&B
Cassidy Mon 20/05/2017 23:59The house itself is beautiful and we'll maintained. The grounds surrounding it are also well maintained though the fire pit has some weeds growing in it.
We arrived on a Friday evening about 5pm. The Inn Keeper checked us in and showed us to our rooms. The room are spacious and clean. Each room does not have the ability to control the air temp. After checking us in, the inn keeper locked up the main house and left. We had no access to the kitchen or the ability to sit and enjoy the living spaces in the main house. We thought about using the fire pit in the courtyard but had been advised earlier that an attendant had to be present and therefore could not.
The next morning the breakfast was available in the main house but it left some of us wanting. It was a poor representation of a continental breakfast. No hot options besides instant oatmeal. A few prepackaged muffins and packaged dainishes. The fruit options were bananas, apples and children's packaged fruit cups. After breakfast was over the inn keeper left and the main house was locked and we were not able to get back into it again.
While the property is beautiful, it feels a bit like a hotel an not a bed and breakfast as advertised.
So disappointed in service
judygary30619on 20/05/2017 23:43The most beautiful and impressive house. Came for getaway with girls...moms, daughters, daughter-in-laws and lots of antique shopping. Arrived to sweet, but not overly friendly check in about 4:30. "here's your keys, I'll take you to your rooms, and I leave at 6:30p.m. and won't be back to 6:30 a.m.." There is no one on premises and entire big house was locked down. We were in outside building due to renovation in big house. We had 3 rooms at top of 20+ steps over looking courtyard. No water bottles in our room although other 2 rooms did have water. NO access to ice, drinks without leaving the premises. NO snacks. No ice. as soon as breakfast was over at 9:30 all doors were locked to Big house and we were on our own. At 4:00 we came in from shopping and house is still locked.
Breakfast.... One coffee pot of coffee which quickly gave out with 7 guest. She did make more. Breakfast is more like Golden Pantry style. Packaged pastry, fruit cups that you buy for kids and 6 come to a carton. Very disappointed on breakfast.
It was in 90 degrees and the thermostat was in the middle room. So if you get room 218 or 216, know that 215 controls your temp in your room.
NICE clean rooms, perfectly manicured yard, Amazing big porch and rockers. Well maintained. It's not your usual bed and breakfast so don't expect to be anything more than a glorified motel. Not able to access house at all for even fruit!!!!
All in all, for what we paid, it is not worth the stay. Last night here there were just 2 of us and one other (ALL WOMEN.). I noticed on first night that my Window was not even locked. I went outside and pushed up the top window so I could pull down the bottom window and lock it. Noticed bathroom window was not locked and a balcony was just on other side.
We were given an emergency number and that is all. Not a welcoming home at all.
Tiny TVs which wasn't a big deal. Comfortable beds and very clean. NO Georgia Hospitality here. Sad.
Disappointing
shanay2on 17/05/2017 22:06This is a unique Anti-Bellum home with a wonderful downstairs, the up stairs was being refurbished. We stayed in the back building, rooms were like deluxe motel rooms, high ceilings and wonderful linens on bed and in bath. The reason we stay at B & B's is because of the previous but even more important is the breakfast and hosts. The girl that was our host, Noreen, was wonderful and very helpful Where the Inn fails is in the breakfast. The only fresh thing at the serving table were apples, which I didn't try, everything was packaged food which you can get at any gas station. We will not be back. If you are looking for a wonderful breakfast look further this place will definitely disappoint.
