THE Place to Stay!!
adluckenbachon 31/05/2017 17:28Stop looking - you've found the perfect place to stay. We recently stayed at the Looking Glass Inn and I cannot say enough about this place. It was clean, included all the amenities we could ask for and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We were shocked at the amount of space we had in the Hideaway room.
Even more impressive, the hearty breakfast... included!! We enjoyed the owner's egg strada (I believe is correct terminology) which is an old family recipe, sausage, yogurt, cereal, etc. They also offer snacks (included) available on the second floor 24/7. I felt like I was right at home.
Last comment - the Looking Glass Inn is about a 7 minute ride to the heart of the city yet the street it is located on is quiet and full of beautiful homes. The best of both worlds!
Over Rated Rooming House
morgigmanon 21/05/2017 14:30Arrived for a business trip and a four day stay on Monday. I was called to see when I would arrive. They knew when I would be there. Walked in and stood in the foyer for 15 minutes. Decided to call. Got a recording so I called a second number. Another recording. Finally the "inn keeper" shows up. Shows me to my room.
Actually had a sliding barn door. I walked in and couldn't believe it. Dimly lit run down. Bathroom a disaster. Later found out how bad it really was with low pressure trying to take a shower with bad water flow. Very old bed but after sliding to the middle, adequate. No refrigerator.
Stairs were hard for the older quests.
There is no breakfast at this "bed and breakfast". Inn keeper was there in the morning. Nice guy, not his fault about how he was directed to run this old place. Saturday was supposed to be the big warm breakfast day. A woman was there for this occasion. Asked what I would like and I asked for a couple of eggs. She answered telling me that what was offered was some kind of a breaded egg breakfast that she couldn't even describe. Then they ran out of coffee. I waited for a little while but had to catch a plane so I left.
This might be a cute little place for a couple but not for a business trip. Porch was nice to sit and relax but they really should clean the spider webs off the chairs. Some might call it charming. I call it a run down rooming house with zero amenities. If I wanted to say anything good it would be location close to town. For what I paid I could have done a lot better.
Quiet Retreat
Heather Son 04/05/2017 16:41My husband and I visited the Looking Glass Inn while in town from Nashville, TN for a truck show. Let me start by saying I am not usually comfortable in big cities and this was the PERFECT place for me to relax after three long days of crowds and exploring the beautiful Indianapolis!! It's perfectly located close to anything we could want to do while still being very quiet when we came back for a relaxing afternoon. The neighborhood is gorgeous and the inn itself is absolutely amazing, historical, and beautifully decorated. We checked in the first of our four nights more than an hour after we were supposed to. I was given the personal cell phone number of the inn keeper and even at the late hour we were greeted warmly and given a tour! We stayed on the lower floor, right by the main entrance for visitors and were still never disturbed during our stay. They have a keyless entry which made me feel safe and we were allowed to come and go as we pleased during our stay. Breakfast was simply delicious (freshly prepared specifically for each guest with a beautiful presentation by one of the owners) and the patio out back was perfect for reading, as was the sitting area in the front. (The take a book, leave a book there was my favorite touch!) Additionally, the butler's pantry upstairs was great for midnight snacking. The only thing that we found a little tricky was parking, but to be fair we drive quite a large truck and the whole city seems to be designed for small or compact vehicles. Even so, we were able to park each time we got back with a little effort and care. My only regret is that the weather (very cold all but one day of our stay) prevented us from taking advantage of the lovely front porch. I did have just a bit of trouble with the shower, as it took awhile to rinse my hair with the low water pressure but who doesn't like a nice long and hot shower? It was an amazing trip and we can't wait to come back and try the two other inns owned by this lovely and friendly couple. Highly recommended!!
Chaotic, falling apart disaster
Joseph Ton 11/04/2017 19:34No one was there when I came to check in, my room had peeling paint, the toilet seat fell off in my hand when I went to open it, the shower barely worked. When I went to bed, there was loud classical music playing so I couldn't sleep. At 10:30 I finally went out to ask someone to turn it off, only to find the place apparently abandoned. I finally found the CD player in a corner and turned it off, but apparently the staff just put Beethoven on repeat, cranked up the volume and left for the night. Then at 7 the next morning, while I was getting ready to take a shower, one of the staff walked right into my room without knocking. That was followed by the sorriest excuse for a continental breakfast I've ever seen.
Apparently they are under new ownership.... and they aren't doing a great job.
Fabulous place in lovely section of Indianapolis
runningbarbon 31/03/2017 23:15This was a wonderful surprise, well-located in a quaint neighborhood in Indianapolis. Tim and Fonda were lovely hosts, the accommodations were delightful, and the free parking was a nice "extra!" We will definitely stay here again when we visit In Indy!
