What People are saying
Expensive, rude staff, bad breakfast, dirty and filthy rooms, terrible interior.
oyssolon 16/08/2017 15:13I went to Lorne Hotel a couple of weeks ago. We looked forward to our stay in a four star hotel, and were willing to pay the prize for something extra. We came straight from a four star hotel in Aberdeen, and what a downgrade Lorne Hotel was!
Let's begin with the room. Our room was very small. It was so small that we barely could place our suitcases on the floor. The carpet and walls had stains on it. I found hair in the bathtub/shower, and the shower knob was almost broken. The water pressure in the shower was very low. The bed was squeky.
Let's continue with the room placement. We were close neighbours to the elevator. That meant that everytime the elevator went up or down, it made loud noises. I have never experienced to be kept awake by a elevator on a hotel. On the hotel there is two elevators. During our stay there was one out of service. While trying to take the elevator down to the ground floor, we sometimes risked stopping at another floor levels to pick up more guests who wanted to take the elevator. During the day time we also experienced competing for the elevators with the cleaning crew. One day the hotel were hosting a big wedding. We were going to take the elevators from 4th to the ground floor. Someone on the 1. floor pushed the elevator - resulting in the elevator stopping on the way down. We went out of the elevator without noticing (the floors look alike - black), and suddenly we stood in the middle of a wedding looking terrible stupid.
The cleaning crew were extremely eager to clean our room. They went banging on our door 10:00 in the morning. Why so early? This have never been a problem on other hotels I've been to. The sound isolation is also very bad, as we could easily hear what people talked about in their rooms while walking through the halls.
Let's move on to the staff. The check in went quick and without problems. But we almost never felt welcomed by most of the staff. During breakfast they almost looked angry to see us.
The hotel interior were terrible. Who came up with the terrible idea of a totally black interior, mixed with some red? Even the ventilation pipes in the ceiling were painted black, probably in an attempt to hide them.
During our breakfast in the restaurant we could hardly see each other. We were blinded by the day light, and the staff who wore black and white were also hard to see.
One morning when we went for breakfast we even asked to sit by the window. That way we could at least see each other. The waiter wrinked her eyes and nose and said; "noooooo" as if I was stupid and a big bother. I guess they had started to make the restaurant ready for dinner serving, and didn't care to change the plate and glasses again for us. The breakfast food was not particulary good.
Check in and check out went fast. But again, we never felt welcome during our stay. After we'd paid for our stay, the person behind the reception thanked and said good bye, all while still looking at her computer screen.
Glasgow as a city is wonderful. I will without a doubt visit Glasgow again, but I will never recommend Lorne Hotel to anyone. Or should I say, I will recommend people to stay anywhere but Lorne Hotel. Expensive, rude staff, bad breakfast, dirty and filthy rooms, terrible interior.
Great hotel great staff and great location!
sammyk170on 14/08/2017 23:36I have stayed at this hotel and couldn't fault it!
Firstly the staff were very friendly!
Secondly they have two fab bars and a Scottish and an Indian restaurant I was lucky to eat in both and they were fab!
The location is great 10 minutes walk to the city centre and also there is some great museums and art gallery's a 2 minute walk away.
The tour bus stopped just outside which was great as I had friends here too that hadn't been to Glasgow before.
The breakfast is great too lots of choice and great serving times.
Honestly ignore the bad reviews this hotel is great :-)
Worst place I have ever stayed
Astrid Hon 10/08/2017 23:37Small, dirty room with view of the airconditioner that was very noisy. The bathroom had a dirty basin, no soap (or anything else) and an empty tissue box on arrival. The springs of the bed hurt my back. We had to wait a long time to be served in the dining room.. The food came either from the freezer or a tin. I guess that's the reason why they made us eat in the dark. Our table for 10 was lit by 2 tealights only. So were the other tables. The cocktail I had was awful; so I didn't bother with another drink. This place should not be allowed to serve food. The direct neighhourhood looked poor and uninteresting.
Worst Place ever
walterbreunigon 10/08/2017 23:06Just staying my first and last night at this hotel.
The room is tiny and outside is the hotel's air conditioner keeping me from sleeping. The window is closed of course but that doesn't keep the noise outside.
The bathroom sink was dirty. The tissue box had an empty carton.
When complaining at the reception they were very unhelpful and said they can't do anything about it (among others: "we run out of tissues").
At dinner we waited 90min for entree and another 30min for main course. Both were clearly unfrozen and microwaved food.
I have been in many places in the UK and around the world. But this hotel tops all bad experiences . Do not use it.
It's a bit sad
on 10/08/2017 20:11The hotel is modern and can't be that old and the outside and communal areas are well kept, but the rooms are tired and sad. There was wallpaper peeling off, mound in the shower, stained sheets, scuffs on the walls, lights not working, dirty tea spoons, scratches and chipped furniture. I'm sure it was good when new, but it's in desperate need of some TLC now!
