What People are saying

We loved it!

Laurencelineon 22/08/2017 22:07

A friend and I visited The Ficus for 6 days all inclusive at the beginning of August, and after reading some of the reviews we felt a little apprehensive! However once we arrived at the hotel we could be more pleased! The food/drinks were great all throughout the day, lots of variety food wise. The hotel staff were very friendly, work very hard and are extremely helpful, including the Thomas cook reps, who tried to get as many people/kids involved in activities daily, which wasn't always an easy task. The rooms are basic but very spacious and were cleaned daily, towels were also changed 3 or 4 times throughout our stay. The hotel is definitely more centred towards families with children, so the pool can be a tad manic throughout the day. As far as "sun bed gate" goes, this really wasn't a massive issue either, we did get up each day and go out early (with coffee) to reserve beds but as long as you did that there was no problem at all. On the whole we had an excellent stay, and would consider visiting again!

Would not return to this hotel, very poor quality not as nice as the pictures Perceive

On arrival we was handed a key and pointed in the direction of our room which took us 10 minutes to find then to realise there was no lift so I had to carry all the suit cases up stairs by myself .if you arrive late at night expect processed ham and cheese sandwiches for dinner. The room was nice and tidy although no cutlery or plates in the room so the kitchen is kind of pointless bathroom towels had an awfull smell do ended up using beach towels until they were changed.

Just a heads up the pool is always cold I know this can't be helped also found that a large number of sunbeds would have towels on them all day and people wouldn't even be using them although it's not a race for the sunbeds in the morning as they are padlocked up until 9am I thought this was a brilliant idea, pool toilets could also do with some better lights in there it's almost pitch black

Breakfast was good and about the only time we could get a decent meal except the coffee and juices were cheap and tasted awful the water and juices came out of the the machine warm. An extra toaster would probably be a good idea of just turn the heat up on the one that is available
Lunch always consisted of the same foods just alternated day by day all tasted awfull and cheap
The same situation with dinner although it was themed nights and a different one every night . We ended up eating out 5 out of the 11 nights we were there.
It seems the hotel has more guests than it can cope with restraunt over crowded had to que for a table most the time same situation with the pool bar and show bar.

Tom and Hannah the entertainers do an amazing job and were always enthusiastic . Also There is no air con anywhere in the hotel Accept the restaurant which was never turned on . To be honest it's the worst holiday I've ever had I could sit hear listing the negatives all day but I have no more time.
This doesn't mean to say I won't be returning to lanzarote as there as loads of things to do the beach was beautiful and must I say thank god for the spar shop down the road.

Again just to be clear no issue with staff they were very friendly accept For our arrival they could be abit more welcoming and show you to you room maybe a welcome drink first impressions go along way ..... Hope this review helps toward improving this hotel as it has so much potential and could be an amazing place

Great holiday....no complaints from us

Nicf220on 21/08/2017 11:19

We are just home from a 7 day night all inclusive holiday and I can hand on heart say I have no complaints.

I was starting to get nervous about coming here on holiday after reading some of the negative reviews after we booked as this was our first holiday abroad with our 4 year old son.   To be honest I wish I hadn’t read any of them before I left!

On arrival at the hotel we were met by a friendly lady at reception who explained everything we needed to know and gave us clear instructions as to find our room.   The room itself was absolutely fine,  clean and spacious.    We hired the TV remote and a kettle – this is no big deal as you get the money back when you check out.    My only criticism about the room is that the shower screen wasn’t long enough and water often leaked out onto the floor.

The cleaners were in our room every single day.  If you leave your towels either on the floor or hanging over the balcony wall they take them away and put fresh ones out.   Ours were definitely replaced 4/5 times throughout the week.   Bedding was changed mid week.

Food - The food was better than I thought it was going to be (especially after reading other reviews)  If you enjoy a mixed diet then you’ll be absolutely fine.  I had some lovely meals included tuna steaks, grilled chicken, steak, salmon, pork, duck just to name a few.   The salad bar was great.     There was a small selection on a different section for children and my 4 year old always found something he enjoyed.

Drinks -  the cola was pretty syrupy and not real cola but I have no complaints about any other drinks,  lemonade was just like lemon fanta!   Amstel on tap, sangria and even strawberry daiquiri.   Sangria was lovely and would be my recommendation!

Entertainment – Hannah and Tom do a great job.   There is entertainment around the pool during the day for all ages,  quiz, bingo, darts, sangria tasting, splash bingo and biggest splash.   My little boy loved the splash bingo!     There was a kids disco in the evening, fair enough its pretty repetitive but kids love that and if you’re taking your kids away then surely the fact your kids are happy is the main thing.

Check out for us was 12 but we weren’t getting picked up until 5.15pm.   For 15euros we were able to keep the room until 3pm which was great as it meant only 2 hours of hanging about before we left.

Overall a lovely hotel which I think gets very unfair negative reviews.    It is only 3 star but that’s what you pay for when you book up but it’s a very good 3 star.    We wish we had booked longer than 7 days!  We had a such a nice time and would definitely come back to this hotel in the future....already thinking about booking for October

Purely and utterly rubbish

betrue2yourselfon 20/08/2017 07:06

Absolutely awful .....full of badly behaved chavvy children with parents to match ....food was dreadful ..pool was scummy and dreadfully slippery on the surrounds ....so many slipped but luckily no one hurt ......manager was unwilling to listen to any complaint and imo thought he was above silly English tourists .....hate people looking down their nose .....I was so so glad to see belfast international......never again ....pay more money for something decent ....as this place is what it is ....cheap and tacky

Great family holiday, very clean, great food and friendly staff

10 days all inclusive and had a great time, the place was very clean and choice of food was good and plentiful. staff were friendly and Hazel the Thomas Cook rep was really helpful. Entertainment could have been better but was OK and would definitely go back. Hired a car and did some exploring which was good, highly recommend snorkelling at the small bay slightly to the south of the main beach. loads of fish and even saw a barracuda and octopus. take some bread to feed the fish and you will see hundreds. using the car to do the volcano trip only cost us 24 euros for a family of 4 and was really good, went to the Market at Teguise which was good, very big and some nice stalls and street entertainers. 20 Euros in a taxi each way so may be worth checking coach arrangements etc. Visited La Groacia the small island off the north coast, very rustic, return family ferry ticket 66 Euros and we though well worth it. Other than one alcoholic nuisance all of the guests were good fun and friendly and would definitely go back in the future.
