Excellent farmhouse bed and breakfast.
andrew oon 23/07/2017 18:21Stayed two nights when visiting the Classic Car weekend at nearby Powderham Castle. Beautiful rural location and it does mean negotiating some narrow lanes, but beautiful countryside. The accommodation is run by Alison who is an excellent host and welcomes you with tea and biscuits in the guest lounge. Large clean comfortable room with balcony. A superb freshly cooked breakfast. An excellent pub in the village about a mile and a half away for evening meal. Will definitely stay again.
Lovely room in an interesting place
DrDavidTon 18/10/2016 11:42Lower Thornton Farm provided us accomodation on a business visit to Devon. We had to re-arrange the visit and both the owner and Expedia were very helpful in doing this. The room was lovely, warm and clean with a tremendous view out over a ploughed valley. The bed was comfortable and the en suite useful, though watch the temperature of the water in the shower, which was very hot. Breakfast was excellent with generous portions and it was worth making the trip for that alone.
Think carefully about how and when you arrive at the farm. We were tired after four hours on the M4/M5 and it was dark. As mentioned elsewhere, the track to the farm is long and narrow and we perhaps should have tried to get there in daylight. The slope into the farm is quite steep and a large automatic car with poor rear visibility is not the best in these conditions. These, however, are problems of our own making and we cannot fault the hospitality and service of this lovely place.
We would recommend the farm to any visitors and wish that we had had more time to stay and explore the area.
Just the one night but what a great night
Tablespideron 16/10/2016 19:51Found it on LateRooms.com as we were heading to the south west for a week's holiday in Cornwall.
Read the reviews and I can see why some are wary of the road in but my tip is not to follow the sat nav from Kenn so turn right just before the bridge and go straight on, don't take the next right and you'll be fine.
Arrived to be met by the oft mentioned Alison who showed us to our room, an unexpected bonus being that it was the ground floor room with a four poster bed, nice treat.
Lovely big room, nice calm views of the very large tree lined garden, and if counting pheasants is on your list of buttons needing pressing, you'll be in seventh heaven - there were a lot...
Big room with TV and a sofa to watch it on. Big bathroom, nice bath and shower over, lovely and clean.
Like others have mentioned, Alison brought tea and biccies to us in the guest lounge when we arrived and produced a lovely breakfast the following morning. A great suggestion of a local pub for dinner proved spot on too.
What a diamond!
Only negative was the somewhat smaller than usual towels but this is a very minor point.
A really pleasurable stay
Treve010on 04/10/2016 07:49Only booked this place on the day and fortunately they were able to accommodate us. Once you have negotiated the very tight, narrow lane to get there, you find this amazing farmhouse with the landlady, Alison, waiting to welcome you with a tea tray and biscuits in the guest lounge. She was an excellent host and cooked a superb breakfast. The room we were given was enormous, with a leather sofa and four-poster bed. The bathroom was also very big and spacious. The room had it's own patio opening out onto the lovely tree-enclosed garden. This was a truly lovely experience. Just one regret; that we only stayed for one night. Next time we will stay longer. From the Bakers.
Overnight stay
Martin Hon 02/10/2016 20:25Stayed here overnight arrived quite Kate so country track was a bit hairy in the dark but added to the adventure.
Lovely owners welcomed us with a pot of tea and chocolate biscuits.
We had the family room with the private bathroom across the hall, clean and comfy can't ask for much more. Breakfast was excellent with selection of fruit juices and cereals then a full English on top of that with endless tea and coffee.
Only downside was no mobile signal and hardly any internet but it was also nice that my phone wasn't going off all the time
