Newburgh House is just so elegant, wish I could just move in. The decor is so in keeping with the personality of the house. The hosts Ryan and Andy were very welcoming and made you feel very comfortable and relaxed. Our room was perfectly lovely with everything we needed. The homemade lavender shortcake was delicious and replenished when eaten, such a nice extra touch. Breakfast was delicious with a choice of everything you could possibly want and cooked to perfection. Would most definetely recommend this to my friends and if in this area again would definitely stay here. Mr & Mrs chadwick Leeds.
The new owners have only recently taken over the property. It is already quite lovely and the y have great plan like offering afternoon teas. Great garden, location to be recommended for all the right reasons.
We stayed at Newburgh House on a short mid-week stay to recharge our batteries. We couldn't have found a nicer place. We were only an hour from home but it felt like we had escaped from everything. We had a very warm welcome from Susie and the dogs on arrival. Our room, situated at the end of the house, was fantastic. The breakfasts were delicious and set us up for a days walking and exploring the area. Colin was very friendly and informative. The house is so quaint and peaceful. We would definitely recommend and hope to return.
Had a lovely couple of days staying with Susie and Colin,
We were welcomed in to their lovely home , even got a lick from Maisie (Their doggy).
Our room overlooked the beautifully kept gardens at the rear of the property, even saw a duck waddle across the lawn.
The room was very comfortable and cosy, with a big bed, tea/coffee making facilities -the biscuits were Scrummy.!
Downstairs their was a huge sitting room with a lovely open fire and lots of books, games and puzzles to peruse at our leisure.
We were given lots of information regarding the local area and what Susie and Colin didn't know they were more than willing to find the information out.
There were lots of recommendations to where we could enjoy a evening meal, and Susie was even kind enough to book us a table at a local restaurant whilst we went out for the day.
And well what can we say about the fantastic breakfast, plenty to choose from the menu and very generous servings, the porridge was delightful as was the full English we certainly weren't left hungry,
I would highly recommend this very sweet bed and breakfast all our needs were met and we were made to feel as if we were part of the family
All the staff were very helpful and kind I look forward tonstaying with you again
I was given a "uniquestay" voucher by my friends for my 50th Birthday, as time was ticking on, the voucher ran out by 1st feb 2017 I thought I would look for somewhere not too far away and combine an overnight stay with some Christmas shopping. I looked on the unique stay web site and checked this B&B out on tripadvisor.
Having read the good reviews I thought this looked quaint and would be perfect after a day spent in York.
On arrival (this being about 4pm in November and it raining) it wasn't ideal that the car park is on the side and the main entrance on a small path off the main road with no pavement.
Susie and her dog did welcome us and showed us to our room, our first impression was it was rather dated, not in a characterful way but old and rather tired furniture. But this was only 1 night and Susie very kindly asked about our dinner plans and informed us she would book us a table nearby at the Staplyton Arms.
Our main reason for such a low score was the bathroom, Im really sorry to have to say this but it was really grim . I know this is a period property but this doesn't excuse what this was like. A stone basin that had been painted and this was now peeling off, the same with the bath, stained with a handheld shower but not to use as a shower but to sit in the bath and wash, mouldy curtains and worse of all patches of mold running up the wall behind the toilet (again grim) and mold on the carpet near the toilet and worse of all the smell of damp.
We went for dinner and were loathed to go back to Newburgh House but we did ( I must admit I wanted to leave then). I didn't sleep well, although the bedroom was ok I laid awake as I could smell the damp in the room.
Susie is lovely but this is a big old house to maintain and perhaps as they are not the youngest of owners this is reflected in the maintenance. We were also a little surprised to be charged on top of the £114.00 voucher a further £30.00 when leaving for the room upgrade.
Please don't think I am ungrateful, Im not but I simply have to be honest and this place was just not for us.
It is in a lovely area and we plan to go back but not stay here.
