Most Peaceful place
asiulapeon 21/03/2017 07:38I stayed in Mangrove Villa for a week and it was amazingly relaxing experience. beautiful river view every morning, all the palm trees and plants and wildlife that comes to the garden makes you feel like you are in a nature reserve. Plus lovely friendly pets around!
There are yoga lessons with experienced and accepting teacher and proffessional ayurveda treatments.
ANd food! Traditional sri lankan meals or ayurvedic diet or you can prepare your own meals in a big shared kitchen.
Staff is very friendly and you can always count on their help and advice.
Relax and unwind...
KrishanthaDocon 16/01/2017 07:25Great place to relax and unwind. Travelled for a peaceful "away from it all" kind of experience. The atmosphere among the Mangroves and river was really worth it. The care by the staff was so much. Hope to travel back soon...
Some good some bad
TM_Fallenon 12/12/2016 10:02Given the price point the condition and the facilities of the room was excellent. However the place is poorly maintained. It has seen better days. Still has a lot of potential to turn it back around if needed. Food was good. However we have seen some rooms that looks worn out. Staff was very friendly and attended our needs promptly and politely.
Only IF the conditions improve and the owners take this seriously we might return.
"Best place for Relax"
annlover38on 27/11/2016 08:13This is the place that we wanted to spend our holiday away from crowded area. There is only 6 rooms and every room have private garden and own veranda view to the r garden or river. A beautiful Villa next to the river and surrounding the Mangrove jungle. Very calm and nature friendly place. Perfect service, Comfortable rooms,Tasty food, good massage, free wifi and big garden with sun beds where we could relax under the Mangrove trees. Beach is 10 Minutes by Tuk Tuk they arrange it for reasonable price. Overall we had a pleasant and relax stay at Mangrove villa.
If it wasn't for the Ayurveda and yoga sessions...
bapsrulzon 31/08/2016 17:07Overall: 6/10
3/3 for the Ayurveda treatments, yoga sessions and the staff that performed this
2/3 for the staff - apart from one person, everyone was great
1/4 for accommodation - website pictures are misleading, well below average standard. I give it one point simply for the roof over my head.
Positive comments:
Very peaceful villa, staff overall were great and the manager tried to address my room concerns immediately. The food was excellent. I only got a mild tummy ache from a chicken curry the third night, so I stuck to fish and veg the rest of my stay and I was absolutely fine. The Ayurveda and yoga practitioner was top-notch. He gave very clear descriptions on why the treatments and yoga moves were being done and the benefits of them. I was very relaxed following the treatments.
Negative comments:
The website pics are old. It seems that there's been no upkeep to the same standard in the 2 years of the date of the website and when I booked. It wasn't bad, just very disappointing. You see deckchairs and well kept grounds on the website, not true in real life. I had 3 rooms during my stay. My first room: bathroom needed a good clean, mould removal and filling in of gaps to keep the bugs out. A gecko also pooped on me and there was no mosquito net. The second room: a cockroach by the air con and ants in the bed. But there was a mosquito net. The third room was much better overall. The only issue being the ants at night coming from the bathroom's drain, but they didn't venture further than that.
The water tank had to be refilled 3 times while I was there.
The one staff that wasn't as great as the others was unprofessional. After my one Ayurveda treatment, going back to my room, he was lounging on the chairs next to my room, feet up, on the phone. Said hi to me and didn't move himself until 15 minutes later. I'm a paying guest, not your friend. He also asked me if I had a boyfriend the 2nd night I was there... Not what I'm there for... He was also quite pushy on getting me to shop at his promoted places for souvenirs and stones - no, I do not want to line your pockets with the commission you'd get from me.
I would not recommend staying at Mangrove Villa, which is a shame, because the Ayurveda and yoga teacher was outstanding. And overall, the atmosphere was very peaceful and the manager tried to do his best for me.
