Simple, clean and comfortable close to Metro
Elvira Non 05/04/2017 16:26I stayed at Marble Arch for 3 nights on my way back to London after having spent a month in Rishikesh. I had very low expectations while in India, so a clean room with basic service was what I was looking for and it was provided. I was a little bit skeptical at first after having read the reviews, but still made a choice in favour of this hotel and I was left content. The staff were very helpful, always around when you needed them. They advised on how to get to the Lotus Temple, use the metro and gave a tip on travelling in the ladies' coach if I wanted to feel safer. The restaurant made dinner for me every night whenever I asked for it, food was simple and tasty. My room was very clean, no issues mentioned in other posts. I had a problem with AC whch was solved immediately by shifting me to a different room. It really depends what expectations you set when you travel, but if you are looking for something basic yet clean and cosy, this is a good place to stay!
Avoid!!
Caroline Hon 24/03/2017 11:44We arrived at Delhi airport quite late and were tired. It must have showed as although we are pretty seasoned travellers we were well and truly scammed. We had no reply from our booked hotel about the airport pick up we had asked for, so we got a local taxi to take us. We were driven for about 30 mins and then the driver got to a police road block. He said he would need to rake us to the tourist information centre to find put how to get through. He said thst the elections meant that a lot of the local roads were closed. The tourist information centre turned out to be a dodgey travel agent but although we had our suspicions we went along with him checking our hotel booking then showing us it was cancelled on the computer screen. He said a lot of hotels were cancelling bookings as they could get much more for the room because the elections were on. So the helpful travel agent then said we should not worry because his 'team' would find another room for a similar price. Hence we were driven to the Hotel Marble Arch after midnight local time.
It looked ok at first glance and we were weary and relieved to have a bed of any kind. It was mediocre at best with a grotty shower room, no air con, grey linen and a fridge that didn't work. The hotel website photos must be quite old because it is much more tired than they show.
The worst aspects of our brief stay were the very dirty table cloths and grubby chef on guard at breakfast. The breakfast was very limited and what there was not great. The noise of the local dogs and birds woke us up and although India is noisy it was challenging to stay asleep through it.
Other reviews mention cockroaches which ww did not see but it is dirty, shabby and run down.
We moved to our booked hotel, The Broadway' after ironing out the false cancellation which was great.
Women beware
Julie Gon 09/03/2017 04:17This hotel is crapy and not recommendable. Excessivily noisy, there are coacroches in rooms. The food is not good. Women beware : I was looked at in a very inappropriate way by some of the hotel staff and I did not feel safe. I don't believe that its staff are respectful of women.
