What People are saying

A relaxing getaway with amazing hospitality and great food

536kartikton 20/08/2017 17:26

This was my first visit to Odisha and coming from a crowded city like Mumbai where traffic woes are a common affair from the very start the drive from Bhubaneshwar to Gopalpur 165 Kms was a breeze. This was around the 15th August long weekend. The highways and internal city roads were relatively traffic free and reaching the resort was a breeze. You could stop over at Chilka lake which is en-route but its not a must. The approach to the hotel is quite and serene. It's has an unassuming private feel right to its front gate. Once in you find the atmosphere very welcoming and hospitable. The welcome drink itself is very tasty. The rooms are mostly sea facing with a brilliant view. The best part is that the room rent include both dinner and breakfast. The spread on both is good with food which would suit all pallets. You might need to make an effort to look for local Odiya delicacies but if you can manage that the rest is brilliant. The complimentary tea available every morning and evening next to the beach only adds to the simplistic environment. The resort was originally an oberoi property which had been abandoned after the tsunami but the Mayfair management is doing a great job with it. Try the baked crab and the pancakes at breakfast. You could get beer served at the pool & enjoy a drink while in water. The spa was the only part left a little wanting, but could be an off day for the masseuse. The regular rooms are good but apparently there is a suet which has had royalty which has lived in it. It comes with a private pool. The Family rooms are also spacious and good. All in all worth the money and a good place for a get away.

Very good stay.

This place is in the middle of nowhere...which means you can just switch off all your worries and return into the lap of mother nature. It is a beautifully designed property ..Even if there are a lot of guests, you are unlikely to feel the crowd.
Sea side view from the rooms is good and I got to see some real beautiful birds.Food is fabulous and staff are very friendly and courteous. Actually a longer stay is better to get a good feel of the place.

Time of our lives!!

Great place for a holiday by the sea. Scenic surroundings, excellent facilities and a picturesque stay...The menu is on the costlier side, but is quite as expected. The swimming pool with its cabanas deserve special mention. Morning and evening chai at the beachside and the ever-friendly staff made our stay even more memorable.

mayfair experiences 2017

SDpatnaikson 30/06/2017 01:55

We have been staying at the Mayfair, Gopalpur for about 4 times now. We rest and relax here before our travels begin in India and allow ourselves to be pampered with a beautiful environment, delicious food and most importantly some of the people who work here have the magic touch that separates this experience from all other luxurious hotel chains. It truly is an incredible experience we anticipate with pleasure year after year. This time our experience was a little dampened.
We arrived at Gopalpur on Feb 2nd 2017 and stayed till Sat Feb 4th 2017. This time around the grounds were not very well maintained. Everything looked dry and lots of dried up flowers and foliage which gave the garden an unkempt and shabby look. The paint was peeling of the benches. There was a torn canopy by the pool. In general it was not the garden I had experienced as lush and lavishly beautiful during previous trips. It is an expensive hotel compared to international standards so it was very disappointing to see this decline. We were here the previous year and everything was the next thing to perfection. Also some of the people in the front staff were rather unaccommodating and one of them was quite rude. I forget his name now. We had a room with three family members and only one of us could use the WIFI. This was very annoying and inconvenient because we all had important things to catch up while we were on break. When we complained to the front staff he could not care less.
Also the beach which we went for a morning dip around 8 am was very dirty with human feces edging the beach maintained by the hotel. When we complained to the guard he blamed it on someone else and the swimming escorts who made our water experience out of this world said it was not their job and that the guard should have been watching out. In other words everybody that we complained to blamed someone else and nobody really went up and cleaned it despite our complaints. This was very disgusting and makes me not want to go there anymore. This used to be one of the cleanest beaches in Orissa and after Puri became filthy we looked forward to Gopalpur.
Our breakfast experience has been out of the world. Not only is the spread beyond imagination ranging from North and South Indian, Asian, Continental cuisines. The chef personally checked on us and ensured that we try all specialties. Bhawani took special care of us like he always does and made sure we were spoilt royally. We so looked forward to coming for our meals not only for the sumptuous food but also to meet these wonderful people who always feel like family and treat us as such.
It is these wonderful people that make our stay so very amazing and lavish. All these sweet, caring people personify Indian hospitality which is unparalleled anywhere. Each one of them went above and beyond their call of duty and attended with a level of care that binds us to coming here year after year. I only hope that the beach is maintained impeccably and the gardens and environment is given special attention to bringing the Mayfair Hotel to its previous standards.
