What People are saying

Good enough

Alyson Mon 29/08/2017 21:28

We decided we wanted a wee relaxing night away up in the city. We had stayed at the Mercure in Paris and were really pleased so we decided to try it back home. The room was average size and decent. Clean and cosy, the bathroom was nice. The staff were lovely and friendly.

However on return after dinner we had to wait outside for 40 minutes with he fire alarm going off and no one had told us what was going on and then eventually just sent us back up to our room. In a more quieter bit of the city and close to the Merchant city nearer the mid-range bars and restaraunts,

Would stay again.

Wedding party disappointment

Jordan Mon 26/08/2017 22:13

Dear Sir/Madam

My husband and I recently stayed from the 18th-20th August in your Glasgow Mercure; with our wedding party of approximately 40 guests.

We had arranged a 3 course meal for the Friday night, priced at £25/head which was served in the downstairs restaurant. While overall the meal was satisfactory, we had several issues which we'd like to bring to your attention:

- due to traffic delays caused by adverse weather conditions some of our guests arrived at around 8.30 and were not served starters because, and I quote, 'the chef has gone home' (the meal was originally scheduled for 7.30 however there was a coach party who were dining in the room before us and so we pushed the time back in order to have the room to ourselves as there had been no mention of sharing the room with complete strangers when we made the initial booking.)

We paid for the six meals that were minus starters and would have complained at the time were it not for the fact that it was our wedding weekend and we did not want to have to complain the night before we were getting married.

- only two of the 5 tables were dressed with tablecloths.

- my husband did not receive his dessert because he had to leave the room temporarily and when he returned he had to ask for his course.

- the drinks were exorbitantly priced (we were married in the Corinthian Club next door and your prices were higher than theirs!)

- we were told that we had the dining room until 10.00pm but were rushed out just after 9.30 by an impatient staff obviously wanting to go home.

- We had booked a Superior Room, which was adequate however the bathroom sink cold tap did not work properly and overall the 'suite' looked tired.

On the plus side; the service from the upstairs restaurant, bar and Reception staff was exceptional! In particular, Gail, Tracey, Stephen, Chris (who helped us with all of our luggage), the Italian lady (please forgive but we've forgotten her name) and most notably Magda, were all amazingly friendly, helpful and genuinely warm in their dealings with us and our guests. They instantly answered any queries we had and found solutions to all the little minor problems that arose over the course of the weekend. Magda demonstrated exemplary service and nothing was too much trouble. She is a real asset to your group.

Overall we had a lovely time and our stay was wonderful thanks to some of the staff. It was only marred by the Friday night meal which was below the standard that we expected as I'm sure you'll understand upon reading the above complaint.

While the meal was charged as an overall price we do feel slighted by the fact that 6 starters were neither prepared nor served to our guests and we would thus be very grateful if you would refund the equivalent amount to us.

We would once again like to commend the reception staff who were quite frankly brilliant!

Kind regards

I stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip, my first time in Glasgow. As such, the hotel was fine, although the wifi signal in my (small) room was very intermittent. The staff at breakfast were extremely helpful and went out of their way to get me fresh fruit and a local specialty. The decor needs a refresh, and I'd consider trying other hotels in the same price bracket before I booked this one again.

Great city poor hotel!

My family and I stayed at this hotel 2 days ago while attending a family wedding. The bed was very comfortable I had a great nights sleep and the breakfast was faultless. The staff were extremely helpful and bent over backwards to help us. I would especially like to thank the receptionists and the maid that serviced our room. Excellent customer service. Those are the positives the negatives are many. Firstly the room itself (405) is tiny with just enough room to walk around the bed. The iron and board is in the most inconvenient location possible. The decor is very dated and tired. The worst thing however, is the bathroom sink hot and cold taps are the wrong way around which could be dangerous if used by a young child.
We were a large party and pre-booked our menus for an evening meal on our first night there at £25 a head. Firstly they were short six starters with nothing to offer as a replacement. The main course was lukewarm and palatable at best, though they did redeem themselves somewhat with the desserts. When this was raised with the staff (who were helpful but embarrassed) we were told that the Chef had gone home. The tables should have been set up beforehand but weren't, which was down to poor management. The wonderful staff make this hotel, from putting insulin in the fridge for us to changing my brothers room so he could put up a travel cot for his infant daughter, but they are held back somewhat by the poor facilities. I have stayed at the Mercure hotel in Bordeaux and found it to be fabulous. Mercure Glasgow has the same potential as its location is great, but at present I would not recommend this hotel.

Good for a mini break

We have stayed here before and the location made it an easy choice for our latest break. It is in easy walking distance to Central and Queen St rail stations. It is next to loads of pubs and restaurants and the main shopping areas. The staff we met were all friendly and helpful. The room was small but adequate all we needed for bed and breakfast and was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good, self service with plenty of choice. The only fault I found was they didn,t make liquer coffee unfortunately.
