Good position but poor experience
MikeW3750on 11/07/2017 14:59We stayed here for one night (had intended on two but decided when we saw the accomodation we wouldn't) whilst touring Brittany.
On arrival I found I couldn't get my car in the Garage as the entry/exit is extremely tight and on a very steep slope. I felt they should have warned about this but in fairness reception did arrange for me to park in the courtyard.
The hotel is a very old listed building but the public areas are very shabby and run down, in need of updating and not what we've come to expect from Mercure Hotels. The room and bathroom were also run down and shabby but the worst issue was that we found the air con was not working and it was 31 degrees outside. We were not advised about this and no fans were offered and therefore we spent one of the worst nights ever with hardly any sleep. When questioned, reception purely said the air con has been broken for some time but offered nothing to assist, which only made things worse in our minds.
Breakfast was also a chaotic affair, the room is very small for the size of hotel and although there were not that many guests when we walked in we had to queue for coffee and to wait for items to be replenished.
The hotel is in a prime position but unless Mercure decide to spend money to upgrade both the public areas and the rooms/bathrooms, I for one will not be returning.
The wost two nights sleep in over ten years of extensive travel.
239loganon 25/06/2017 16:59It was hot. The hotel did not advise us on checkin that the airconditioning was not working in the entire hotel. Next morning the duty manager said he would find a hotel with working a/c. We asked about a fan. His reply: did you not have a fan?
Not what I was expecting for a Mercure level
muniquemazzeion 30/05/2017 14:32Very poor attendance. Not provided what was expected and requested prior in the reservation. Air conditioning not working in the room. Nothing was done to support in any of the problems faced in that moment.
Two nights in Rennes
HollyDay4Meon 17/05/2017 17:32We were very disappointed in this hotel. It was small, no bar or Restuarant. The carpets throughout were worn and dirty as was the wallpaper. The bedroom carpet was stained and the wallpaper was discoloured around the aircon unit - which incidentally was not available for use as they had removed the controller! The bathroom, although a good size, was very tired and worn. The bed was comfortable. Very disappointing for a hotel of the Mercure brand. This hotel has so much potential, it's an absolute crime that its been allowed to get into this state. We will not be staying here again.
Great location, can get pricey
Tom Ton 31/01/2017 11:41I've given a mark of average because there were a couple of things that really didn't justify 250 Euros, other than capitalism, for one of the nights.
The room I had was clean and spacious on the 2nd floor, but it's looking very dated. Not enough lighting meant for a very romantic but impractical setting. The ironing facilities are a cheap half size folding board that makes it difficult to fit anywhere to iron a shirt practically.
Housekeeping had dislodged the flush on my toilet when i came back to the room in the evening (constant running water) and i reported this to reception before going out for dinner. It wasn't fixed when i got back so i thought it easier to lift the lid off and do it myself.
Again, when you've paid 250 Euros for one night, you're paying for the scarcity of the rooms in the town, not the luxury!
Breakfast was plentiful and standard French cuisine but easily forgettable.
The hotel staff were polite and helpful, and you can't beat the location for access to the central bus station.
