Beautiful, centrally located

Very nice boutique hotel, centrally located for great walks around the waterfront and easy access to everything else. Staff was always helpful, rooms very spacious and comfortable. Rumor was Albert Einstein stayed here years ago too. Breakfast buffet was top notch as well.

Fabulous week

We are a middle aged couple who have just spent a week in Opatija at the Sveti Jakov. This is a lovely hotel full of old splendour and character. The location is perfect for lounging by the sea or visiting the shops and restaurants, or a perfect stroll along the longemara, a lovely promenade walk for calling in at the seaside cafes and restaurants, all with perfect views. As we were staying for a week we were given the best room in the hotel (room 12) which has a large terrace (much bigger than a balcony) overlooking the gardens and with a slight sea view. The room was very spacious with a very comfy superking size bed, and the bathroom had a double sink which saved a few arguments in the morning. The breakfast was plentiful with lots to choose from with the highlight being the chef coming round with a different treat to try every morning. All of the staff were very friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again when in Opatija.

It is nice boutique hotel, in very heart of Opatija, so location is perfect.
I expected more from room, it was quite dusty (cobwebs on the ceiling), TV remote did not work and WiFi connection could be improved. Rooms looking at main road could be noisy from traffic. All in all, room is spacious and bed was very comfortable.
Personnel was very friendly, nice and helpful. Wellness is available in the nearby hotel. Breakfast on terrace was simply perfect.

Hotel in nice garden

Hotel Sveti Jakov is old building from Austrian period in the nice garden with threes and flowers, where serve the breakfest. Big nice rooms, few have balconies, king size bad, close to the sea in city center. Service is very good, breakfest is rich and tasty and price is just ok for this type of hotel. Price of garage is expensive and you can park the car in city parking place in half of price.

Nice location, old-style elegance

In short: we enjoyed our stay.
The location is probably the strongest point here, as you are just a short walk away from the city beach and other major spots.
The room is equipped with dark furniture, what is normally described as 'traditional', and that is not what we frequently see in the hotels we choose to stay with (we prefer modern clean design) . Nice for change, and we liked it this time. The room is properly cleaned, staff is doing a good job.
Restaurant is placed on the ground floor, with few tables outside on the terrace and nice view of the park. Selection of food is excellent, everything looked fresh and tasty. Coffee was also good (very important for us :)).
And now for the negative stuff: we were told that the parking is free of charge, and you pay only if you use underground garage of the neighboring hotel. Not true. During checkout we have been charged for a few days of parking in the very tight area next to the hotel. Lady at the reception initially refused (?!) to call the manager, but when she finally did, he didn't want to talk to me. He was "too busy" to spare a minute for me even over the phone. Not a good, neither professional gesture, especially after seeing him having long breakfast at the terrace earlier that day.

We might be back, but some of the staff need to work on their attitude.
