Decent choice in the Shapingba District
kevin0870on 03/11/2010 09:51Located near Sanxia Square in Shapingba District, the hotel is a good choice for anyone visiting the nearby universities (Chongqing University, Chongqing Normal University, Third Military Medical University are all nearby) or with business in the area. Not a good choice for tourists, as the hotel is far from downtown and not near any tourist sites (except for Ciqikou).
The hotel is basic and fairly standard. Rooms are a good size and comfortable, but the bathroom has a very odd layout, with the all glass shower out in the middle of the room?! Slippers and robes are provided, as are bottled water and tea (no coffee). There was a flat screen TV with Chinese channels only (no international channels, only CCTV News was in English) and free wired internet. There was a mini refrigerator in the room and small minibar with snacks and soft drinks. Overall the hotel was ok and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the Sanxia Square area.
The hotel does not accept American Express and does not exchange currency. This was a bit embarrassing, as I only had 200RMB, Hong Kong Dollars (the currency exchange at Chongqing Airport International Terminal was closed) and an American Express card. However, the staff /manager was very accommodating and let me leave Hong Kong Dollars as a deposit, until I could go to Bank of China and exchange.
