What People are saying

No more NH hotels

Myla Gon 10/08/2017 14:48

I used to like the NH chain of hotels. But this one in Ghent did it for me. No more.

I stayed three nights. It started out badly. There is an elevator in the hotel, but rooms ending 5, 6, and 7 have 6-7 extra steps to and from the room.
My first room was 305, with steps. I went back to the desk to change rooms. Without thinking about it, he gave me 206—also with steps. The third time was the charm, and I had room 109.
The room was a nice size, and so was the bathroom. But the bathroom had the huge, deep bathtub common in Europe. I call it a suicide tub—you take your life in your hands climbing in and out, especially since there are no handles to grab. The shower head was at one end of the tub that had a wall on both sides. With the shower curtain closed, it was quite dark.
After slipping a bit in the tub while taking a shower, when I went downstairs I asked for a rubber mat for the tub. The ineffective desk clerk (same one who checked me into three different rooms) told me they did not have any. He said he had that comment about a year ago. Obviously, either he never reported it, and nothing was done, or he did not report it, and nothing has been done.
Returning to the hotel in the afternoon, I asked a different desk clerk about a rubber mat for the tub. He said he would check. Two hours later, I still had not heard from anyone.
Will it take someone breaking a leg, or worse, and a law suit, for the management to spend a few euros on non-slip mats for the bathtubs?
The lights in the room were not great, and the reading lamp by the bed had the dimmest bulb I have ever seen.
The air conditioning worked well.
There is still a pending charge from the hotel for almost $200, dated July 29. Today is August 10. It just defies logic!
I will not be staying at any NH hotel ever again.

3rd Day Stay

Mark Pon 08/08/2017 12:08

Myself and my wife visited here on our 3rd Day of visiting brussells. First of all we walked from Gent Station into the town centre, which took about half hour. But if we took the tram from the station tongue centre which took around ten minutes and cost 3 euros. As all trams that leave this station go to the town centre and back quite regularly.

But you live and learn lol gent itself is very small and isn't quite as nice as Brugge. As if you walk 5mins in any direction you end up in some very run down parts of town.

The boat ride is worth the 7 euros, and takes around 40mins to complete. The castle there is also worth the visit costing around another 10 euros each. The one good thing though is all the shops in the centre that we never found anywhere else.

It takes around 20mins by train from brussells central station or 15mins brussells midi station.

Kind and helpful staff,

We stayed one night in this hotel as part of a whistle stop visit as it was convenient for the station. It is a bit of a walk from the hotel to the town centre (about 20 mins) but this can also be reached the no 1 tram which leaves from the station. The staff were lovely, helpful and very personable. As we checked in late and all premium rooms had been allocated we were given a suite, The bed was huge and very comfortable.and the room was clean The bathroom contained a bath as well as a shower which was useful as the shower wasn't working and the doors needed descaling. Everything seemed to be just a little bit worn out and this hotels appears to be waiting patiently in line for the refurbishment to make it as lovely as its staff,

Dirty room and bad service. Not a 4 star hotel

Lucía Gon 05/08/2017 23:01

We've stayed here 3 nights, when we arrived we saw the fridge in the room and the toilet floor were very dirty (as in the pic), the room wall also dirty and broken. We said it and the front desk person told us she would look into it immediately. That night nothing had been cleaned. Morning after we said it again, they offered change room but we just wanted ours cleaned. At night still nothing done. At night we asked for a complaint form and the receptionist did as if he couldn't find any, then gave us a suggestion letter (not the same thing), lied about the manager's contact details and tried to fool us into not formally complain. I just wanted my room cleaned, now I'm upset at the treatment received. Cannot recommend.

Excellent location for rail. Staff are excellent - professional, courteous and really knowledgeable about the area and the beers! Breakfast is great - good value all round.
Looking forward to my next visit as the staff remember you and always have a happy greeting for you !
