Great Find
Kat Won 15/06/2017 20:52We just got back from Nonsuch Bay, Antigua. If u are a sailer or want to learn to be one, this is the spot. You can have as many lessons as u want, and it's included in your stay. I really learned so much. If u are a beach person, this is probably not your spot. While the rooms are excellent and the food is fabulous, the beach is manmade and tiny. On the positive side, the wifi is spotty, so don't plan to work. 😊
No nonsense about Nonsuch

I was very hyped up by the reviews on this site. Stunning hotel, "Award Winning Food", pristine beach, infinity pool.
Well in my view the hotel is at the best a struggling four star. The hotel was no where near full and that says a lot. Award winning food. I would love to know who gave out the awards. Breakfast was pitiful with very little choice and a sad looking plate of fresh fruit. Yes in the Carribean little fruit. Lunch was again disappointing with little choice and practically no salads. Dinner was a little better but not great, meat always tough and the lighting so poor you literally could not see what you were eating.
The beach is far from pristine and there are no parasols for shade so unless you can get under a palm tree you have no chance of shade.
The main pool is hardly ever accessible as it is by the dining room and is closed off during all meal times. There is no seating so if you do go in for a dip you then have to walk down the hill to a sun bed to relax.
Whoever designed this hotel should be called to account. It could be so much better if the design had been thought out more.
The hotel is obviously struggling for business and this reflects in the atttitude of the staff who just seem forlorn.
Nice Relaxing out of the way All Inclusive Resort
neilrcon 06/06/2017 23:02Even though we had a really relaxing first nine days here it was somewhat spoilt by the greed of this hotel allowing a very large wedding party to descend which spoilt it for others and took away the quiet friendly family atmosphere and put the hotel staff under extreme pressure. The hotel is very remote c40 minutes from the airport but situated in a beautiful bay with views towards the barrier reef and Atlantic ocean in the distance. We were met at the airport by the hotel arranged courtesy taxi which was pretty straight forward. On arrival we were greeted with a rum punch each and chilled scented towel and a fuss was made of our 1 year old.
Our one bedroomed suite with separate kitchen was nicely furnished and the separate sitting room and large wrap around balcony with furniture a bonus. Each property is fitted with a dishwasher, cooker and washer dryer. (dryer not very effective). The whole suite apart from the bathroom was air conditioned. Some windows do not have glass but instead have mesh and shutters which unfortunately allowed more of the tree frog and cicada noise to penetrate the suite at night. Wi-Fi very poor most of the time and if you moved you had to use other rooms signals if available. Most members of staff were really friendly and polite and couldn't do enough for us for the first nine days. Breakfast was quite poor and basic but the egg cook did add to choice with excellent omelettes and a choice of eggs. Bacon most mornings was under cooked. Fruit juice poor quality. Lunch choice varied in quality and choice although soup and deserts generally were good. My Vegetarian partner struggled at times though. Breakfast and lunch were also spoilt somewhat by the cramped buffet area and the abundance of raiding birds which were allowed to sit on serving dishes and utensils and also spoilt by the abundance of flies which seemed to multiply by the day. The resort is apparently fogged weekly but we were told that they had missed our 2nd Friday and it was noticeable as the mosquito population also increased. Dinner was so different to the buffets and food and service excellent with the menu changing every 3rd day. Drinks/cocktails and unlimited good wine and Prosecco were excellent at the bar, restaurant and on the beach when there is service twice a day. Disappointed that Late or Cappuccino was not available anywhere in this hotel. Bottled water is available to buy in the small shop and not supplied as part of all inclusive.. We did not use the sailing tuition but everyone who did raved about it. We did take the hotel rib to Green Island one day and saw a giant turtle swimming and also visited the barrier reef and really enjoyed the experience. For the first nine days the middle pool was very quiet and used by both couples and families who both managed to relax there especially with some of the children at the excellent & friendly kids club most mornings. The kids club also seemed to use the top pool more which was adjoining the club. As our week went on the pools seemed to get very cloudy and littered with leaves and insects. I only saw them being cleaned twice in 12 days and when the near c40 strong wedding party arrived and took over the whole pool the families and couples moved to the beach. Our last 4 days were completely different to the first 9 as the party seemed to take over the nice part of the restaurant as well as the pool. Nice people but very noisy as a group and a few people complained about late night noise, rowdy behaviour, drinking in the pool and swimming out of hours. It is a pity that our last 4 days were were spoilt by the hotels action in accepting such a party and not increasing staff levels and not making sure they obeyed rules. If our last 4 days had not been spoilt we would have given this lovely hotel a 4* rating.
Lovely staff and an objective review
MJPRon 05/06/2017 11:06I can see why people give this resort 5 star ratings and i was looking forward to my week away based on these reviews and thats why although very enjoyable, i came away slightly dissappointed. I will list the good and, not bad points but areas to note below, but nothing deflects from the warm staff, they really are great.
Good Points:
- The sailing and the instructors are brilliant
- Green island trips very good, i didn't see any turtles but others did and whack the suntan cream on
- Kids club looked good and great staff again
- Evening a la carte food excellent
- Rooms big
- Gardens and grounds lovely and well kept
- Housekeeping and front desk very efficient
- Location i thought ideal, i.e. out of the way
- Great for young families with plenty to do
- Wine and drinks menu pretty good
Other points
- Beach small but not busy, however no umbrellas, lack of shade if it was busy and sunbeds a bit past their sell by date
- Beach was a bit scruffy on days, not the weed but discarded cups and straws and no where nice to walk along if thats your thing
- Swimming pools were cloudy when we were there and again cups and straws left around as if not cleaned on a regular basis, although sun beds and umbrellas around pools very good
- Swimming pool over looking the best view is situated in the main restaurant which is stupid, best pool yet can't be used during breakfast lunch or dinner times?
- Hotel couldn't cope with the rain as restaurant and bar open to elements, so when it rains you have to move from your table, i.e. can't finish a meal, this happened twice at lunch, which is fun in part but if it happened at dinner time not sure what would have happened
- The bedrooms as stated are large but not restful, they are open to the elements in the main bedroom (in 2 bedder) due to just shutters and fly screens, no windows, so like sleeping in a tent
- Had a large wedding party while we were there who on a couple of nights were up til 2.30am being very noisy which was not controlled by the management, however thats just a lack of respect for fellow guests by those people
- Breakfast and lunch were both adequate but nothing special, the area is just too cramped and there was a lack of selection, but it was consistent
- Service was a bit inconsitent in restuarant at night but it always came with a smile so no problem
- WIFI a bit hit and miss but so what
I would recommend for young families (not a lot for older kids to do in evening), keen sailors or would be sailors and a get away from it break, as mentioned lovely staff and my review is hopefully balanced
Destination wedding
Geoff Eon 30/05/2017 18:59Best vacation I've ever had. Came here to get married and stay for 10 days. The wedding coordinators at the resort take care of everything which was exactly what we were looking for. Staff is super friendly and made you feel welcome, even the maintenance crew was friendly and engaging. The kids club is phenomenal. Our daughter requested to go everyday. They have events for the kids daily, over 5 years old get to learn to sail, kayak bc and snorkel in the bay with a kids club Instructor. Under 5 they go to the pools, beaches, feed fish in the marina area. At 5 pm they do dinner and a movie nightly. Parents get to enjoy a vacation with your kids!
The all inclusive was not cheesy party style, more classy with only 1 bar and a beach attendant. The restaurant has good food and lunch and dinner are by reservation. It's laid back if you don't make your time slot. The reservations are more for crowd control since there is only one restaurant.
The sailing lessons, snorkeling, and sea kayaks are part of the all inclusive. All of the instructors are fantastic. Most have close to 20 years of sailing experience.
The room is beautiful. Water is drinkable with a filter in the fridge. Kitchen has fridge, dishwasher, microwave, cook top, and all dishes and cups. Coffee and tea makers. Laundry in each unit. Jacuzzi bath tub and shower. A/C. 110v outlets. Free WiFi in room.
By far this is the best vacation we have been on. I will be back. I wish we got off the resort and explored the island but I guess that will happen next time.
Only issue I have is the beach has lots of seaweed. But they keep it cleaned up multiple times a day.
