Outdated old room, totally overpriced, and its a smoking room!
AviemoreScotlandon 27/05/2017 01:07Having a habit of staying in hotels with brands that I have come to know and trust, I thought I would treat myself and book at Novotel Gera, I even upgraded the room for a bit of extra comfort. When I arrived I was pretty unimpressed by the decor, the minibars have all been emptied too for "Environmental reasons". Anyway, I sloped into bed, I woke up sneezing, the place was stinking of smoke, they have put me in a smoking room. On the table there are matches in a box and an ashtray, why would they put someone in a smoking room that's not a smoker, they didn't even ask, there was nowhere to choose this on booking it.
Outdated decor, communist style, and I can't get to sleep because of the smell of this stinky room nothing to rave about here, I hope the breakfast is better than this overpriced stinky room.
Oh and one more thing. When I arrived the receptionist started to check me in, a German couple walked up whilst I was still there, for no apparent reason he stopped helping me and went onto helping them, leaving me there uncomfortable, when they walked away no sorry or anything, he just continued.
Totally dissapointed and feeling ripped off.

This time there was a lot police staying in the hotel, because of an event in the city. Still the same courtesy as always, recommended before and now again.

Breakfast is well Assorted and of good quality.
There is a small area for kids.
There is a free parking outside as well an inside one which you have to pay.
Cons:
Light is entering the room as the windows curtains are not enough to fully cover them.
The elevator is quite strange and the only one available. This is leading to some inconveniences.

figfeston 03/05/2017 21:45Good place to stay in Gera, a 10-minute walk from the railway station. It's also on a tram line. Typical Novotel, it looks like it's aimed at the business-conference market. But on weekend, it was relatively quiet. Breakfast was pleasant, especially in the wintergarten. The room was comfortable, and wifi worked without any hitches.
An outstanding place for our first night in Germany
Trailfinder52on 19/04/2017 12:48This may be an older hotel however you would never know it. Modern clean and well maintained rooms and public areas. An excellent breakfast with what seems like limitless choices. This is a place that we look forward to visiting again.
