What People are saying

Stayed here because of convenience

SimplyLMon 17/05/2017 00:46

The Oakwood is a comfortable enough place to stay. However, if it wasn't so convenient to my business meetings, I would stay somewhere else. I hate to go as low as to say that it is 'poor' but it seems a little worn down. Also, the staff's english is very poor, which makes it tough when not traveling with someone that speaks the language. There are not any places to eat within the hotel but a great Starbucks and restaurants are nearby. The rooms are very spacious with a kitchen and full bath. All chocked-up to say it is just an average business hotel.

comfortable rooms

We only stayed one night but the room was nice and large (as it expected when you stay at a residence rather than 'normal' hotel) with all the facilities you expect. For the price I prefer to stay at place like this rather than a hotel as you ahem the kitchen facilities etc so can self cater. Good location close to Metro and plenty of place to eat but about 25 minutes from centre of city.

employee commendation

I stayed for 2 nights in March 2017. I don’t do many reviews but one staff member deserves special mention, Jocelyn Zeng. She was very helpful at check in and when I wanted to stay an extra night, went above and beyond her required duty to do that for me at the last minute. At the time I mentioned that I was looking for a shoe repair place, and she gave me directions to one. Unfortunately it was unable to do the repair i needed, but while walking back to the hotel I ran into Jocelyn and another staff member, told them what happened, and Jocelyn told me she knew of a better repair shop that would definitely be able to fix my shoes, and offered to show me where it was since it was very close to her home and she had just finished work. She did, and it turned out to be an excellent store, which I needed because I had Geoxx breathable waterproof shoes that could be ruined if not carefully repaired. They did a perfect fix.
If you are reading this, thanks Jocelyn!

Nice hotel but more like a local hotel

Jennifer Hon 04/04/2017 10:27

Our apartments were spacious and clean and the cleaning lady was very nice and cleaned after my children when we asked. The reception staff were lovely! But the gym and pool are so badly managed, dark and warm; I rented swimming caps for myself and my daughters for ¥20 each; and my sons, age 1 and 3, were asked to wear swimming caps to go into the children pool. I refused as it wasn't feasible for their age and heads. The manager let us in after the classic line: it is my management's decision, I don't have the rights to change this; when I asked him to look into this for future, he replied: let's not talk about it anymore, I let you go now, and go on now. I used to work in 5 star hotels and they all ask for swimming caps for infants. This is simply not true and definitely not how one talks to a guest! The changing room smells! The corridor smells of cigarette often; the reception was chaotic as 3 staff tried to move a drunk man into wheelchair, never forget the spit and cigarette throwing. Don't think we will go back there if we were in Chengdu again.

Not an International Level of Quality

The front office staff is very good and recognizes the cultural gaps in the international community expectations. They do their best to mitigate this obstacles however; you really need to turn a blind eye to the differences. From hygiene (spitting in the pools, smoking in the No Smoking areas including the elevators and elevator panel to your floor with spit, and to the sneezing in and eating from the breakfast buffet containers makes it difficult to stay in this establishment. Also the apartment carpets need shampooing or replacement and getting visitors to keep their apartment door close. Some guest treat this as a common home for all to come and go and not considering other guest. Therefore; there are much better hotel and residence institutions to cater to your needs rather then the this.
