The hotel is perfectly located on a hill side overlooking picturesque Wallgau and the entire Karwendel mountain chain at its best! TOP BONUS: 300 meters to the golf course and the course is very nice to play!
Hotel is run by a family that speaks perfect English and provides a homely style of service - genuine and non pretentious but from the heart!
Most rooms are large and with spectacular views and the huge restaurant terrace at the ground floor outside the restaurant is already worth staying here.
I do not recommend the hotel for peoples who are looking for a sterile chain hotel style of interior fit out, both for the restaurant and the rooms, as they will be disappointed by its home style and Bavarian style simplicity. If you are looking for authenticity and a "get-away-from-all" style relaxing hotel stay- welcome to the Panorama-Hotel Karwendelhof!
Last but not least: The food is very good as cooked in home style manner and thus again genuine, tasty and without any fuss. Personally selected prime meats , vegetables bought fresh from the market and a good sauce. Bon apetit. The Smoked See Trout is a must try as well!
Although the hotel does not provide a swimming pool and wellness environment, it is a great hotel for singles and couples as well as families that want to chill out in a different ambiance and who spend the most of their time during the day in the spectacular nature of the 5 lake and endless mountain region - which is real and authentic wellness at its best already!
The hotel itself was OK although the coffee at the morning buffet could have been stronger. However, the owner was dishonnest when it came to settling the bill. He charged me €588 although the reservation (made via Booking.com) was for €574.
He also said he did not accept credit cards contrary to what was stated on the reservation from booking.com. After paying with my debit card (which gives me worse exchange rates than my credit card) he admitted that he actually does take credit cards but wants to avoid them to save on the bank charges.
We walked in at this hotel on the 17th June evening and asked for a rate for double room. We have been advised 59 Euros/night. The room had a great mountain view and we found the rate attractive, but not exceptional, given our experience in travelling the region for previous 35 days. It was Tuesday and the hotel was almost empty. Our lady host was friendly and very chatty. The shock came next morning, when our sweet host issued us a bill for double the amount advised previous evening. Explanation: 'oh no, we always advertise rate per person, you can check in the local tourist information office'. We couldn't care less what they advertise, we came as walk-inns and we enquired on-site about the rate FOR DOUBLE ROOM. While we were shocked, we were in no spirit to argue further and paid the doubled rate. Nevertheless, the event marred our day and the whole situation kept re-playing itself in our heads for next few days as it was the only case of blatant dishonesty we were met with during our 50-days long holiday.
About internet access: the claim of 'wi-fi available in all areas' is false. In our room (nr 4) and outside the room our tablets could not detect the slightest signal. Wi-fi worked well in the lobby downstairs.
The hotel, while outside Wallgau centre, is in nice place, has an interesting interior, restaurant terrace with mountain view and a number of rooms with same plus balcony. Pity it is run by people who deliver their unsuspecting guests nasty surprises.
If you are from overseas, you may also be surprised that this hotel will insist on accessing passports of all visitors even if they are staying in one room. No other hotel in Germany required this from us, most were happy just with one person's ID, usually my Australian driver's licence.
Stayed at hotel Jan 2013.
Excellent service, great food and ideal location.
I would definitely stay at hotel again.
Resort is a small classy village, it can be quite quiet so don't come here if you want lively apres ski.
3 main slope areas, perfect for beginners but very limited for expert skiiers.
We stayed there on two occasions recently while working in the local area. The manager and his wife could not have done more to make us feel welcome - including keeping the kitchen open late a cooking us a special meal of rainbow trout one evening when we arrived back late from a long day's work. They are also fantastic company, full of stories, tips and advice about the local area. The other high point is the view - our balcony's had a fantastic view of the valley and mountains which would have brought me back on it's own.
I would heartily recommend them and will be staying with them again whenever I revisit the area.
