Cocooning cottage

guid0vanleuvenon 25/04/2016 14:54

Went there for a week in April 2016. Very friendly receptionist who gave us a lot of explanation (some administration had to be done upon arrival).
Brittany style cottage with well equipped kitchen, cosy corner with LG TV, separate bedroom with wardrobe, en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and a lot of place to put your own stuff, separate toilet, synny side terras with furniture (room 213).
Ideal for the two of us!
Located 1 km from the seaside/supermarket and fishshop (every morning fresh fish).

Beach within reach....

Suvieveon 20/09/2015 22:45

Its situated a walking distance of 900m from the beach. Down in the village of Morgat there are plenty restaurants and a supermarket.
The residence's surroundings are well kept except for our apartment which lacked maintenance etc. The beds are not exactly where one is likely get a good night's rest.
There is no free wifi ( guess its unimportant). However, there is the possibility to buy wifi for a week, which we did, but it never worked at its optimum. Basically a waste of funds.
The staff are extremely helpful and do their utmost..
The pool which was supposedly warm was otherwise which made it unpleasant to make use of it.
The good news: they offer a bread service and it is very quiet on the whole.
I endorse the rating as Very Good due to its location

Great stay for families

We were family of three adults and three children youngest four eldest twelve, all loved the pool, although weather was poor we found lots to do. Morgat was a lovely small seaside French town. House was very clean and suited our party. Outside space was well looked after, plenty of space for children to run around.

Only draw back was booking in time as already highlighted we had night crossing and decided to stop on way so we didn't arrive to soon.

Le Hameau de Peemor Pen is a secluded, purpose built holiday village a quarter of a mile from the lively seaside town of Morgat. It caters, apparently exclusively, for families. Our two daughters (10 and 11) had asked to return following our first visit two years ago. This time we had a three bedroom maisonette which gave us a spare room for storage. Downstairs, the double bedroom had an ensuite.

What I love about Peemor Pen is the peace and quiet: I saw plenty of families arriving with dogs in tow but didn't hear a woof out of them all week - the families or the dogs. Each maisonette has French windows which lead out onto a well kept garden and decking.

Indoors, the television has been upgraded but still shows exclusively French channels, no surprise - it being France an' all. The dishwasher is most welcome but cooking facilities are limited to a hob and microwave, the latter with a grill feature which we didn't brave. There's no kettle but you can borrow one from reception.

We were blessed with good weather but the bedrooms have shutters which allow you to keep the rooms cool ready for night. The beds were comfy and the linen crisp. Lashings of very hot water meant that morning showers for the whole family were no problem. The living area is a little cramped and would have been especially so had there been the eight people staying in the maisonette which the websites claim it can accommodate. There is only one sofa, doubling as a sofa bed, and the depth is such that it is uncomfortable to sit on. The only other options are the dining chairs or the plastic garden furniture. I would suggest putting a couple of foldaway chairs in the car if you have space. Cleaning up at the end of your stay is tedious and subject to an inspection (yikes!) but you can pay about £50 extra to have Lagrange staff do it for you.

The complex itself is very nicely kept: the pool was never crowded and the steam room and sauna provide added relaxation. It's an easy and pleasant walk from Peemor Pen to Morgat and in the twilight, on the return trip, you can catch a glimpse of bats swooping in and out of the trees.

Clean before you leave?

We booked this property through Brittany Ferries

The directions to the accommodation were good however with almost all of Brittany Ferries arriving early in the morning; it is difficult to understand why we had to wait until 4:00pm to check in to accommodation booked through the Brittany Ferries website. Most accommodation that we have stayed in previously has had check in times from 1:00 - 2:00pm.

Upon arrival the welcome we received from the reception staff was adequate however there was no introduction to the property and the site facilities, (such as they were) and we received no information pack. We were later told that they only had one information pack in English and that had been given to another family!

The cleanliness of the accommodation was basically good although we didn't appreciate being handed a bag of linen and told to make the beds up. This was especially disconcerting since there would have been at least 6 hours between when the property would have been vacated by the previous occupants and made available to us! What on earth were they doing in the change over?

Some two days before our departure we were advised by the reception that we would need to have an inspection of the property before we departed and we duly arranged for this at 8:30am the morning of our departure. Having stayed in a number of French and British self catering properties we are well versed in the departure procedures and appreciate that a cursory inspection to check for damage and that the property is in a reasonable state of cleanliness is usual. However, on this occasion despite having brushed the floor the night before, we were told by the person carrying out the inspection that we expected to have undertaken a full clean of the property before we left and they then stood and watched us mop the floor and hoover the carpets meaning that we were late departing for our ferry home.

The quality and comfort of our accommodation was far below what we had anticipated. Although there was plenty of room in the accommodation, the kitchen was 'squeezed' into one small corner of the living room and was poorly laid out with no Oven, the bed/settee in the living room was too tall to sit on comfortably and the stairs to the first floor were extremely steep and with no carpet, extremely slippery for two young children to negotiate.

We had chosen this accommodation because it was wheelchair accessible and whilst the en-suite shower room was large, the fixtures and fittings were inadequate. On the first day the toilet seat shattered into several pieces and when I went to use the shower seat it was not only too small for an adult to sit on comfortably, one of the runners on the seat was cracked making it unsafe for anyone with paralysis to use. I was however able to utilise one of the patio chairs.

The location of the property was as we anticipated in a good location to explore the local area. However, the lack of information of the locality especially in English meant that it took a number of days to find the best route to the nearby village of Morgat. There was also a lack of information available in English at reception in respect of places of interest in the locality.

We appreciate that we were visiting France and that using the local language is all part of the experience but as this holiday was being sold in the UK one would anticipate that there should be a reasonable amount of English literature available.

Again, with a lack of information in English about the site facilities or the accommodation, Fire and safety advice was limited.

There were no entertainment facilities other than a very small play area for our children and a swimming pool. The pool, whilst wheelchair accessible could not be considered child friendly by UK standards. There was an extremely small shallow toddler pool whilst the rest of the pool was of uniform depth, (reported as being 1.5 metres), but in reality it must have been far in excess of 1.65 meters as neither my wife or I were able to stand up in it. There was no lifeguard on duty and for 4 hours between noon and 4:00pm the reception area was totally unmanned and therefore there was no access to staff in an emergency.

The grounds around the accommodation were generally unclean with significant amounts of litter and with uneven, gravel pathways generally unsuitable for wheelchair users, the accommodation needed frequent cleaning to remove the gravel being brought in from the pathways outside.

Altogether this was not a good experience and I would not recommend complex to anyone with young children.
