Positives easily outweigh the negatives.

Firstly, there are two Pierre Vacance residences in Val D'Isere.
This review relates to the Pierre Vacance in La Daille about 1 to 1.5Km outside of the main town of Val D'Isere.
This residence is further separated into 2 properties....To the left of the main entrance the property is a 4 star (Les Balcons de Bellevarde) and to the right of the main entrance is a 3 star (La Daille)

We stayed in the 3 star La Daille accommodation as a party of 5 for 7 nights the week before Easter 2017. Party was 3 adults, a 16 year old and a 13 year old.

We left our dog at home on this trip. The residence does accept pets (we bumped into some Brits with a gorgeous Labradoodle) but BEWARE Brits, the nearest vet is in Bourg St Maurice which is about 45 minutes each way, this would not be pleasant in the snow!

What is good about this property?
The location:
Totally brilliant for the money and skiing access but a 15 minute walk from the main town of Val D'Isere and bars and restaurants.

Getting up the mountain:
About a 5 minute walk out of the main entrance and directly over the main road is the cable car. A further two minutes to the left of that is the funicular and a Casse where you can buy ski passes.

Supermarket:
Again, directly out of the front of the hotel and across the road is a small supermarket (Casino) which (although it smells of rats and is expensive!) is well stocked.

Facilities
Ski lockers: On the reception floor there is a large (but cramped) ski locker room which easily holds 5 sets of skis and poles and can be locked using a key that accompanies your room key. Each room has its own locker.
Equipment hire: On the main entrance level, as part of the Residence there is a Skiset equipment rental shop.
Accommodation: We stayed in the La Daille accommodation. The 'room' slept 6 and was well stocked with self catering equipment. Importantly it was clean and tidy with plenty of clean linens and comfortable bedding. Personally, I loved the electric heated towel rail in the bathroom that enabled us to dry our wet clothing items!
Cleaning kit: The room was provided with a small cleaning kit (washing up liquid, cleaning liquid, a scourer and a cloth, 5 dishwasher tablets and two large tea towels)
Flexible arrival day: We were able to book from Sunday to Sunday rather than be forced to do Saturday to Saturday which made travelling easier as we could avoid 'changeover day' and the volume of traffic.

What could be better about this accommodation?
The website says it is ski in and ski out. This is total nonsense unless there is another ice age. It is not ski in and out at all. You will have to carry your skis about 5 minutes across the main road.

WiFi
You can upgrade to WiFi access for up to 5 devices but, even though we paid for this, the WiFi leaves a lot to be desired. It will just about allow social media access but forget any streaming.

Communal areas
The website says that the residence had been renovated but the main communal areas are still grotty and tired. The balconies are rusting and crumbling and the wood stain needs attention. Our tap in the kitchen had a hole in the spout that I had to mend with medical tape to stop it spraying up the wall when it was on.

Arrival/departure
When you arrive, there is nowhere to park that is particularly close to the Residence main entrance to make unloading/loading all of your gear from the car easy. In front of the Residence, on the road, which is accessed via some stairs, there are spaces for 2 or 3 cars to park for 1 hour but it is a total pain. There is a road which allows access to the main reception ares of the residence and a huge paved courtyard directly in front of the main entrance which would allow vehicular access, but this is chained off for some reason.

Parking
Parking is a pain in the bum. There is on site parking in the garage underneath the residence but we have a 4X4 with a roof box which wouldn't fit (height) so we had to park about 7 minutes up the road from the accommodation in a pay car park. It cost us Euro 66 for 7 days. When we left, because the spaces in the road near the residence were parked in, we literally had to carry 5 sets of equipment (skis, poles, boots, helmets) from the residence to the car park to load the car!

Summary
Don't be put off by the grotty communal areas. If you love skiing the location is great. The room does the job and more importantly is clean and tidy and, let's face it, you're only really going to sleep here anyway. I'd go back but I'd really like better WiFi!

Does the job!

Stayed for a week as a group of four male skiers in our 50s.
Excellent value for money, the accommodation was clean and well appointed. Plenty of hot water, reasonable internet (off peak). Be aware you get a double bed with two bunks .... duvet covers and towels provided, along with a dishwasher, microwave and hob - all worked well. Cleaning pack included washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, scoured, cloth & tea-towel.

Fabulous views and good access to the 'Funival' and 'Telecabine' bubble car. 200m walk or ski in/out with enough snow!

Downside? Accommodation is a bit small, but as a base to dump your stuff and sleep off the apres ski, it does the job.

No real night life here, but the free bus runs every 15 minutes into Val D'Isere where there is plenty!

Recommend Cocoricos for apres-ski - happy hour 3pm to 4pm (50cl beers are 2 for 1 Appx €3.5 each) with a live band at 4pm.

There is a spa in town - one free entry with your ski-pass, so take swimwear if that appeals.

All in all, a great place to stay and great value for money.

Basic & small but good

These apartments are not large but as a family of five for a week they were fine. The main bedroom is a good size and the split between lavatory and bathroom helps. Kitchen small and has no oven but does have a dishwasher. Ski storage was fine and location for the lifts, supermarket, bus is excellent. Apartment was clean and everything to a good standard.

Noisy neighbours can be a problem but this will be true of any apartment block.

The staff really stood out as being friendly and helpful and making a real effort.

Functional but dated.

Generally functional and in a great location but the decor is tired (looks much better on their website than in reality). No oven which rules out kids pizza night (important in such an expensive resort!).

Great Staff

How times have changed. A stay in self catering accommodation in Val d’Isere a few years ago is likely to have been something to endure during your ski trip. The apartments would have been hammered from years of use and not ungraded. The attitude of staff would have been take it or leave it.
Pierre & Vacances Residence La Daille is quite the opposite. OK these ski apartments are never going to be as roomy as one would like and how 4 go on in our apartment that housed 2, I don’t know but the fittings and contents were in good condition and the staff could not be faulted for their attentiveness. Our every concern was acted upon immediately. Well done everyone.
