Great budget ski-in/out budget accomodation

louwebb14on 11/05/2017 13:22

Great location – literally next to the Bruyère bubble lift. If you are looking for basic accommodation on a budget with easy access to the slopes Les Valmonts is definitely a good choice.

- The kitchen is well equipped – microwave, hob, dishwasher, plenty of plates, cutlery etc.
- Free (pretty high speed) Wi-Fi in the room
- Ski locker room is basic but certainly does the job fine and opens straight onto the slope near the lift.

Staff at Les Valmonts were excellent – very helpful, professional and polite. We ordered croissants every day which arrived at a great time each morning. The boulangerie is only a short walk but this was a convenient option and definitely recommended.

I travelled with my partner and we deliberately booked an apartment for 4 people so we would get a separate bedroom. That said as expected with a French ski apartment the ‘bedroom’ was tiny - a small double bed with no space to move around - literally open the door and climb onto a bed filling the whole room.

We visited the resort at the end of the ski season. The first couple of days were fine, my experienced boyfriend managed to ski on the last remaining snow back to the accommodation while I chose to join the Bruyère lift as the mid station and get the bubble back. On our third day we could were starting to watch the snow disappear and there was just one slope open down to access the Bruyère mid station was very slushy and very busy. As I am not yet a confident skier we chose to drive 5mins up to Val Thorens which was the best decision – free car parking (busy so be early) and only a couple of mins walk to the slopes and lifts! The piste bashers had given up trying to maintaining a slope to return to village level in Les Menuires but with the short drive we had full access to the Val Thorens area.

Great holiday, good accommodation and lovely resort.

End of season skiing in Les Menuires

Les Valmonts is what it is: no, it's not luxurious, but it is very good value, good accommodation and really well located for lift, bars, restaurants etc. We deliberately chose an apartment for 4 even though only 2 of us travelling so that we'd have a separate bedroom. I'd mentioned it was my 50th this year and our apartment was on the 7th floor in Les Valmonts A (as opposed to B) with a balcony with direct sun until at least 5.30pm. Pretty sure all apartments in A have the same aspect, though. Apartment would have been cosy if we'd had 2 more sleeping in the living room! That said we did host a pizza evening (pizzeria really close at top of building) in the apartment with 6 friends which did not feel overly cramped. We had trouble finding Les Valmonts initially but location was terrific especially when considering the time of year we chose be there - literally the last 2 weeks of their ski season (the joys of being a teacher!) Mere steps from front door to Les Bruyeres lift which whisked us up to the top with an easy ski to Val Thorens. We bought full 3 Vallees pass rather than Les Menuires in view of the snow conditions at this time of year. Even in the time we were in Les Menuires, we could practically watch the snow disappearing in the village; brown was the name of the game. Understandably the piste bashers gave up trying to maintain any kind of a slope to return to village level but it was super easy to get Les Bruyeres back down from it's mid-station - Les 4 Vents restaurant was perfectly placed to do so. By the 2nd of our 2 weeks the resort itself was clearly winding down - bars and restaurants gradually running out of stock, but still enough to be comfortable. Les Valmonts did not wind down - staff were incredibly helpful and very good humoured. Although the boulangerie itself really wasn't that far, I would recommend the delivery service, easily arranged though reception. Reception's recommendation for ski rental was a good choice. I was cagey as I have been used to my own skis for years but staff at Ski Set were very efficient & helpful and even gave me a refund when I brought the skis back early - we chose to take a leisurely drive back to the ferry so left early. Overall a well placed, good value accommodation with staff that really make the effort to help. Would return.

Would return it was a quiet accommodation but might be down to the time of year we went. Reception was very nice , and we even swap rooms down to the ski in ski out situation. Bubble lift was next to the hotel.

Great skiing holiday!

If you are looking for luxury, don't come here but if friendly service and all the basics are what you're looking for, you couldn't do better. All staff were really friendly and spoke excellent English (even when we spoke French) and the Bruyère lift, giving access to the whole 3 Valleys is right next door.

Great ski holiday in Les Menuires

The apartment was very well equipped ,well heated and spotlessly clean and very close to the lift and being on the edge of the town we had no noise problems, the staff were very friendly and helpfully . Les menuires offers a good selection of shops and restaurants .it also enables very good access to the local ski area and onto the superb 3 valleys .on the Thursday night we watched the touring firework show which was very good.would go back and recommend .A great holiday .
