Dissapointed with Building and Room Allocation

Having to travel a long way and at some expense, a family ski trip is a once a year treat for us. So I want to make it special. Having stayed at PV in Flaine last year, we booked midweek and were allocated a basement room with a steep bank for a view 3 feet from the door. So this year I booked a superior room 9 months early as soon as the rooms became available in the hope that I might get a better room with a view of the mountains. How disappointed I was to find that 1) we were booked into Roselend (further down and away from the slopes and with less facilities) and 2) at the back of the block with an unattractive view of the hotel behind us.

On speaking to the pleasant and helpful staff, they suggested that I should have called them after booking to express my preference which they would have tried to accommodate. Sadly, that's not good enough for me anymore. I want to be able to book the type of room that I want with the view that I want and in the building of my choice at the point of booking without having to phone someone to ask nicely. Expressing a preference after booking is by no means a guarantee that that is what I'm going to get. Is it too much to be able to book a room with a view in the building of my choice?

BTW - I may be wrong, but I don't recall the PV website making it clear that there are two buildings that make up the Chantel apartments. I feel somewhat misled by this. Apart from that, I got what I expected. A fairly small apartment, reasonably well equipped with a nice pool for the kids to enjoy.

Good accommodation & well equipped

We visited the Alpages in April 2017 for a family ski trip! We were located in Chantel 1 (main building) and right near the ski lockers too.
We had a 5 person room with locked brilliantly with kids as had a main bedroom and a little room with bunk beds for the kids.
Only down side was only 1 toilet but one shower and sink in the bedroom and then a family bath with sink which did make the morning showers a lot easier.
The kitchen was well equipped with a Nespresso machine and filter coffee machine.
Make sure you bring toilet roll as they only give you one and no mid week clean either you have to change your own sheets and towels.

Pool area was nice but a lot of the hummans and steam rooms were out of order. Would have been really nice to have a jacuzzi.

Unfortunately it wasn't a great snow year - so we couldn't really ski in or ski out - but could join the very steep piste outside (as beginners I would not advise this until later in the week). Which means you have to walk across the piste to villards lift and take the gondola down to the ski school meeting points. You can take the villards lift back as can ski across the piste and pretty flat.

You at the top of the resort area so the walk down and hike back up takes a good 10-15 mins however there is a great shop in town that will deliver groceries within 2-3 hrs which was great.

Overall I think it was perfect for what we needed.

Accommodation is very similar to an exec centre parcs type thing.

There is a burger pizza and breakfast place right next door for easy food and the ski rental is next to that which is a Skiset which means they are dotted around the entire of les arcs so if need something fixing or adjusting you can pop in anywhere.

Disappointing

We have used Pierre and Vacances apartments in previous years, and although this was a premium residence it was really disappointing. The only thing premium was the fact it had a swimming pool and sauna plus a hairdryer in the apartment. Our holiday invoice showed we had booked a large apartment, which was extremely small, considering the previous apartments we had used in La Daille and Avoriaz were much larger and were what they described as standard apartments and they had a separate bathroom and a shower room with toilet, in this apartment there was only a bathroom with shower over and a separate toilet. They also had an area on which you could prepare and serve food from also they had two sofa beds in the lounge, overall these apartments were much larger and better equipped than this one. In the Les Arc apartment there was only one three seater sofa for five people. Our rep did try to get us a larger room but none were available and she had to admit that the accommodation was small. There was nowhere to prepare food, the only work surface was a draining board, however she did bring another table so that I could have somewhere to prepare and serve food. The apartment was supposed to sleep six, but there were only four chairs to use at the table and therefore we had to use the one and only plastic chair from the balcony for the fifth person in our party, there was no table on the balcony for us to use to sit around to enjoy a drink whilst enjoying the sunny afternoon/early evening after a days skiing. We noted that other balconies were well equipped. There was a lack of door/wall hooks to hang up damp ski wear to dry off, it's not a good idea to hang damp items in wardrobes as it makes other clothing smell damp and musty.
They do provide an all singing all dancing microwave come oven - great if you can read the French instructions, would have been useful to have the instructions in English! so a wasted piece of equipment as far as I was concerned. There were two coffee machines provided- why two I don't know and these were placed on the draining board creating even less space, so had to find somewhere else for them to be stored. A new passenger lift has been installed making it easier to get down to the town, however this broke down on the Thursday and was still out of action on the Saturday. A free bus service was available to use as an alternative.

Over priced dirty small accomodation.

Fantastic location

Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean accommodation. Great pool. Ski in and ski out which was perfect. Downfalls are wifi, regardless of package, not very good for streaming movies or music, but ok for laptop. Hill to shops and restaurants, fine on the way down but a struggle on the way back, certainly got us fit! Accommodation was small for 5 people but we managed. Overall a great holiday.
