What People are saying

Lovely apartment, helpful staff

Sue Ron 27/07/2017 01:55

I’ve been allocated an apartment with a bedroom, bathroom, separate toilet kitchen and utility room with washing machine and tumble drier. There’s a balcony large enough to hold a party and a view all over town, along the main Anse Vata Beach and across the huge lagoon (reputed to be the largest in the world) to two ilots. It’s all lovely. My only complaints: the lift mechanism is noisy and you can hear it through the night and the hotel pool looks a little murky. No-one seems to be using it, though to be fair the weather isn’t great and there’s very few folk on the beach too.
It’s French but not French. Nearly everyone speaks some English and they are all very helpful, especially the hotel staff, who go out of their way to get me information about transfers and trips.
On the street people stop me and ask if I need any help to find my way. I’m okay but it’s raining and it’s a lot further into the town centre than I thought. I have two beaches in the south and several bays used as marinas for plenty of small boats to navigate before I arrive at the town proper. The southern section with stretches of golden sand (empty today) is very modern and Riviera though it manages to maintain some character with the odd bohemian touch. There are also upscale shops, especially in the port areas, but Noumea seems to have avoided the Honolulu effect. The centre ville is more low rise with a Caribbean feel. There is a thriving modern market on the quay and a central place with fountain surrounded by little boutiques and bars. It’s a good area to hang out. My choice for today is frozen yogurt with aisles full of toppings to choose from.
Then the rain stops and we’re back to blue sky so the view looks entirely different on my return journey. There are a lot of sporty folk here, looking fit in their shorts and trainers as they jog or cycle past. Everyone has a ’bonjour’.
It’s only 22 degrees which is deepest winter out here. But I’ve been told the coral on the llot Canard is good and I take the water taxi out and brave the cold. I’m really glad I did. There is some pretty pastel coral with the best assortment of fish I have seen for some time. There’s some really colourful monsters lurking down there and eyeing me up. Very rewarding, even though I have to speed round before cramp sets in.
Dinner in Entrecote 360 a panoramic revolving restaurant on the roof of the hotel. There are only two choices on the menu, tuna or beefsteak. It’s very good with excellent fries.

Bit tired but reception staff great

Maggiemary Horshamon 25/07/2017 07:29

Our room was quite nice - fully equipped kitchen, reasonable living area and balcony. Parts of the rooms, particularly the bathroom, and hotel building are quite tired looking. Housekeeping seemed a bit spasmodic but got there in the end. Reception extremely helpful with any room items that had been forgotten during housekeeping. Reception also very helpful with bookings and information for us. Nothing was too much trouble. We had 2 maintenance issues which were both dealt with on the day they were reported. Breakfast was expensive - approx $30 for continental and $40 for fully cooked. We opted for buying fruit and yoghurt at the shops instead. Overall it was quite ok and I would return if the deal was good.

This hotel has a towel issue.

We stayed here for a week for our anniversary. On arrival, the staff were very welcoming but indifferent on our departure. Our apartment was a good size and very clean. On day one, we had two old towels, one with a hole. We have thrown out better. We had hand towels two of the seven days and had to almost beg for them. Our kettle did not work on day one and took a full day to replace. Our breakfast was included and was great. The hotel itself had some nice elements to it but tired looking in other areas. Would not return and not encouraged to go to other hotels in the group. The location was good.

Breath Taking Views

Recently stayed at the Ramada Hotel & Suites for our first visit to Noumea. Upon arriving at the hotel we were met by a lady behind reception who in my opinion had an unpleasant attitude - may have been the end of a long day but a smile and a friendly nature do go a long way.

Our room was on the 16th floor with views of the Lagoon and Race Course - couldn't have asked for a better view to wake up to every day. The room was a one bedroom apartment - great sized room, lounge (which is also a safe bed), full sized fridge, conventional oven (which we thought was just a microwave) dish washer, pots, pans, rice cooker, coffee maker (no filters or coffee for this) washer and dryer, table and chairs inside and out on the balcony. The outdoor chairs were quite dirty and need a really good heavy duty clean, but we sat on beach towels we brought with us so no great drama.
Shower - Water pressure was a little weak - not sure if this is what the pressure is like in Noumea and the hot water doesn't stay hot, it comes and goes - same with the kitchen sink too, water is only warm which makes it hard to wash dishes when doing them by hand.
Bed - super comfortable and the pillows were great too.
Pool - we noticed that in the information folder in the room that there was a charge of 250CFP per room per day to use the hotel pool and the same for the gym - we only used the "heated" pool once - the pool was very cold, I'm guessing the pool is heated by the sun - The lagoon is much warmer.

The Ramada is close to some great restaurants (Defiantly recommend Le Faré du Palm Beach - amazing burgers and brilliant service), walking distance to the aquarium, two convenience stores close by, close to water taxi's and glass bottom boat.

We didn't eat at the two hotel restaurants as the pricing seemed to be quite high compared to other restaurants in the area. The restaurant on the top level of the hotel only has two items on the menu and unlimited fries - we didn't go there either due to the limited menu items.

Housekeeping - This is hit and miss. We found that at times it appeared to be a rushed job and there were quite a few days that we get back to the hotel and housekeeping hadn't even been (this was after 2pm) and then get a knock on the door late afternoon to see if we needed housekeeping.

If you're a smoker - smoking only on the balcony but no ashtray - 600ml coke bottles with water do the trick.

Internet - Hotel provides internet per room, only 250MB per day which isn't much if you are trying to make bookings online, find restaurants etc. Most restaurants will have free Wi-Fi, just ask for the password.

On our final night we didn't notice that the fan above the shower had a build up on mould in it, we also found that both air con units (bedroom and living room) also had a build up of mould - brought this to the attention of reception upon checking out.

All and all it was a good stay, did the hotel exceed my expectations? No.

Fab location, Good room, Friendly staff

We stayed at the start and the end of our New Caledonia holiday adventure. Upgraded to a two bedroom first night (huge!, fantastic views) Superior studio the last night, still a more than comfortable size, balcony, views over the racecourse to the hills. Very dim lighting though in lounge.
Reception staff were friendly and attentive and had a good understanding of english (much appreciated)
Easy short walk to the beach front.
Free carparking - great, but an obstacle course and a narrow exit
