Disappointing

As other's have mentioned it is not an expensive hotel so expectations are low to start with but driving in I wished I had not made pre-paid reservations! Old, in poor repair and just scary to enter. The staff is very nice but I had the feeling most people do not stay for 2 nights. Shabby would best describe the building outside and inside. It was filled both nights we stayed there - Memorial Day Weekend - with many people coming for Mesa Verde. Cortez is a main street of motels - many of which looked similar - but I would not return to this one.

Dirty and neglected

One cannot necessarily blame lower ranking employees for the general condition of the hotel. While the people we interacted with were nice enough, we were appalled by the condition of the carpets, which were filthy, dated and torn in many places. Some huge garbage bags, filled with garbage were placed right next to the entrance too. There was hair around the bathtub and the bathroom was generally aged and not cleaned properly. The door would not close as there was a defective lock. We ended up slamming it pretty hard to get it to close, surely not brining any joy to other customers as it was late in the evening...
The room could have been nice, if maintained properly, but it was not.
In short, we will never stay at this facility again.

Had to call 911 for another guest when we arrived. Check in clerk seemed unphased by all the cops who showed up as a result. Room (and sheets!) were dirty. We were given dirty sheets to replace them and needed a 3rd set. (And we had to change them ourselves!) Room was disgusting and door to the building doesn't lock. Clerk offered no sympathy or compensation for everything we went through. Never staying there again!

As expected

This hotel is cheap and feels cheap. It's not very clean, it's pretty ugly and bare bones on the inside and the bathtub leaked all over the floor when we showered. But the continental breakfast actually exceeded our expectations and the staff was extremely nice and friendly. If you need a cheap place to stay for a night in Cortez, this will meet your needs. Yay for cheap hotels with no bugs!

Rooms not clean

Lots of hair in bathroom. Shower curtain had big chunk of mucous. Matters bowed in to center very badly. Floor had not been vacuumed. Breakfast was pretty bare bones. Barely any fruit and absolutely no protein- not even yogurt. Cloud be much better if they added bagels, cream cheese, yogurt, more fruit, and hard boiled eggs. Would not stay here again. Was what I expect from a $50 room, not $80.
