Charming hotel in a quiet location
Kelly Con 22/06/2017 08:42If you are looking to get away from it all, this is a great hotel. This hotel is located very northern part of the Medoc. The rooms are spacious and very nice. The staff is lovely - managed by a husband and wife team. Wine tasting and tour of Rolland de By and their other family of wines was wonderful. Rolland de By happens to be one of my personal favorites so this was a treat for me.
I highly recommend this place.
Excellent hospitality
Kate Hon 02/06/2017 08:47We had an amazing time here. It's boutique hotel standard and the managers couldn't be more helpful. They set us up with tableware to have picnics in the garden, got our bikes out ready for us every morning and when I left my sunglasses behind, drove out to find us and return them! So so kind. The breakfast was amazing and the whole stay thoroughly enjoyable. The grounds are beautiful. I can't speak highly enough of this place. Thank you!
Lovely place to stay
Anna Hon 12/09/2016 16:53On a cycling holiday with a group of friends, this was an ideal place to stay - a quiet and scenic location, beautiful rooms, charming hosts and a wonderful breakfast in the garden each morning. And we had excellent recommendations for dinners nearby.
False advertising and overpriced
MILOUWon 07/08/2016 23:24Rarely do I have to give this rating yet ,in a case of willful deception,I feel it is fully warranted.
The place bills itself as a hotel which it is not, there is no staff after 8PM and the guests are on their own using an access code.
Tripadvisor labels it a Bed and Breakfast, closer to the mark but the breakfast is not included in the very high price.
It calls itself a Chartreuse, which in French does mean an isolated country house.
That is an apt description, you are in the middle of nowhere except Medoc vineyards.
No reason to go there except to get a visit and tastings of the Chateau Rollan de By,
This was indeed promised in the advertising and the reservation.
Upon arrival, the lone, part time receptionist claimed that besides reserving a room we should have reserved the tasting and since we didn't,it could not be done.
When confronted with the fact that the reservation voucher did in fact include the tasting, she reluctantly proffered half hearted apologies suggesting a visit to the neighboring Chateau de la Tour de By instead.
We did attend that visit by a competitor and it was fine.
What did transpire was that the lone, defensive and testy receptionist could not do the tasting because the place was short handed and she could not leave her desk.
As an excuse she made up that we should have reserved the tasting ahead of time.
As to the accommodations,we ended up in a renovated ground level room with a large bathroom and plush furnishings(but no air conditioning) .
The place does not have rooms with twin beds,we ended up with a ridiculous four poster bed that was so high off the ground my wife had trouble climbing on it.
You can hear every steps of the guests above you since interior noise insulation is minimal.
There is no restaurant and none in the vicinity.
To add insult to injury, prices are way out of line with the services provided.
To get there signage is poor but you are better off not finding the place.
Beautiful hotel, fantastic hospitality
JenM4444on 12/07/2016 23:31Our stay at the Hotel Rollan de By couldn't have been better. The small boutique hotel is beautiful, with large comfortable beds and clean, well-appointed rooms. The location is perfect for exploring the Medoc countryside and is within a short, picturesque drive to some of Bordeaux's most famous wine chateaux as well as to the sprawling beaches on the Atlantic coast. The free wifi is fast and reliable and breakfast on the terrace was fresh and delicious. Would certainly recommend for a relaxing, romantic holiday.
