The whole establishment requires a full refurbishment. The whole place looks tired. Our room:- bedroom window rotten, window nets black. paintwork shabby. room smelt of stale cigarettes. Felt i was in DSS accommodation. i would of not stayed except it was booked for a friends wedding so didn’t want to upset the newly weds by moving hotel. Breakfast wait was 1 hour.
Positive. Food and catering were very good and we all had a good time.

A lovely setting for a golden wedding lunch. Good choice of menu, starter, main and desert. The service was fantastic and the food piping hot. Not rushed but not left waiting neither. Staff lovely. setting good, food fab.

Avoid this hotel!!
Myself and my friend stayed at this hotel for one night for a event at the hotel the next day. At check in it took ages to get our key. We wanted to pay by cash for the room not knowing that you need a extra £30 deposit to pay incase we ‘trash our room’, which was given back a check out. This is not mentioned on the website. People that paid with card transactions didn’t have to give the extra deposit. I understand if they did pre authorisations on the card payments but it did not look like it.
On the way to the room there was mould everywhere on windows, the doors looked trashed and it made us wonder what our room was going to be like.
Dreading to get there, hey ho no surprise the room had mould all over the windows, the lampshades and the bathroom was disgusting with mould growing on the tiles, the bathroom curtain and the mirror wasn’t cleaned properly. It smelt aweful. I am a sufferer of Asthma and my breathing for the night was troubled and had a sleepless night.
At dinner, the service was slow, the waitresses were very helpful but it seem like the kitchen staff didn’t want to be working on that day. 45 minutes wait for main courses to be put on the table and it wasn’t even busy. The onion rings were soaked in oil and you could feel the oil dripping in your mouth once you bit into it.
At check out, I must say that due to lack of sleep due to breathing, the receptionist did check the room before giving back the deposit.
The carvery lunch was unorganised, had to wait 20 minutes to be served.
My friend has sent 3 emails to the hotel and yet not one has been answered. This really does show how the hotel management deals with their customers. This place is shambles do not go there!!!!

The Roman Way put on a most excellent spread of sandwiches, cakes and scones for our volunteers. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Lots of homemade cakes. Can’t thank the staff enough for making us so welcome. Takeaway bags were provided so nothing was wasted.

What a dreadful place!
I arrived at exactly 21:00 and found the reception unmanned. A notice on the counter instructed me to dial "0" for assistance. This I did.
After several minutes I went to the bar where I asked the ONLY customer there if there were any staff about but he couldn't help either.
I returned to the reception and waited again. Still no staff.
After a total of exactly 10 minutes I returned to the bar. The lonely customer still had seen any staff.
Since there was a complete lack of security I wandered off in search of assistance.
I eventually found 3 staff having a nice chat in the kitchen.
No apology. I was very rudely told to get from behind the bar. This very rude young man then hurled abuse at me and asked me if I wanted the room or not. Before I could answer he screwed my booking form and threw it away.
At this point I left. I am now in a hotel about 5 minutes drive from the Roman Way.
Very pleasant and helpful staff. The whole place has been recently refurbished.
I've now read other reviews about the Roman Way. I think I had lucky escape from that Hell Hole and their rude, aggressive inefficient staff!
