What People are saying

One overnight in this hotel is enough.

We arrived in a cold evening. The reception was very friendly. The access to our room was a little bit difficult:steps down and up and down and up. The room itself was very cold the heating wasn't turn on. The water to wash the hand measuring 33°C
waiting 5 minutes and the maximum temperature in the shower went up to 34°C.
We went to the Hotel Restaurant and we wondered why they got 17 points by the Gault Millau?
Some years earlier it was much better!

Comme il faut - just ten years ago

Andreas_H151on 11/08/2016 22:29

This is a hotel I would have adored ten years ago - but since then things have happend, unfortunately not in this hotel. Don't misunderstand me, the place is good and worth the price, it's just not state of the art. There is carpet in the rooms, the bathrooms need a refurbishment etc. - on the other hand, the price is a bargain, the food is good and who cares about the hair cut of the receptionist ;-)

Romantik? The name only

Very good restaurant and breakfast. However rooms are awful. Cold furniture (and I don't mean antique which would be great), mattress that should have been replaced years and years ago, wifi that has a signal near 0..... This hotel has what it needs to be a great destination but have to do a lot to improve. The owner own many other hotel in the city including newer construction. They should focus at giving to this one a status it deserve by completely remodeling the rooms while maintaining the character of the hotel

Very comfortable stay

Had a very comfortable stay at Hotel zum Stern with a large double ensuite room. Excellent shower too.

The staff were very kind and welcoming and also the breakfast was great. I learned later that if you want to have a hot breakfast you need to order it.

Very charming, historic inn....but hard to find

First booked this hotel for two nights since we were arriving from Frankfurt. Glad I took one day away and went on for a longer stay in Potsdam. Bad Hersfeld, in the historic center, is quaint townwith some fachwerk houses but not really useful for a tourist with limited time to spend. One night was fine. If you are a local and most of the guests were German, this is worth more time. Found that a huge problem throughout Germany is the constant crossing out of exits with detour directions. My Michelin map and knowledge of German got us to the town with 25 miles out of our way...no it is NOT EASY to find the hotel using GPS....got out and a nice German man who helped us find the rear of the hotel where you off load your luggage....Again, the front desk was helpful mainly because of my German skills....our room was ready and we liked the clean, historic charming bedroom....looking out at the historic square in the front. Also, very excited to see a small market the next morning....charming. The bathroom was somewhat modern and very clean.I requested a shower which was small that was a problem in all of the Romantic Hotels we stayed in...the showers were usually a step up into a small space, you could not bend over without hitting your head or even almost getting scalded or frozen hitting the taps.... Thought the towels were thin...toiletries were not great...we absolutely hate the soap container that you have to press on the front and back to use in the shower; it's not easy to use. Did not feel like eating a huge, expensive meal after that long flight so we went to a local place for a lunch/diinner. We did enjoy breakfast which was included in the price. There were many choices of meats, cheeses, breads, rolls, yoghurts...no problem with getting decent coffee although it was not as strong as we liked. Again, GERMAN speaking helped to get more service. There was a pool and spa area but we were too tired and did not avail ourselves of these pluses. The vast number of tourists were Germans who remained were guests who never once said hello or acknowledged a good morning which was very off-putting. Luckily we had a parking space directly in the back so that we were off early to Potsdam....again, AGAIN the entrance was closed to the Autobahn and AGAIN we had to find our way to a different entrance with absolutely NO SIGNS to follow....this happened all over GERMANY!!
