What People are saying

Nice hotel, bad housekeeping

Vlatka Pon 07/06/2017 13:33

We have spent weekend in Jugendstil Hotel Bellevue. Hotel is realy nice and it is near to the river Mosel. We have had really nice apartment with Mosel view. We have really enjoyed spending time there. At that time it was boat race, just a few meters from our hotel and it was rally noisy and loud, we could not open the window at all.
Unfortunately I must complain about cleaning service. Bath tube was not cleaned at all, and we have used it night before. Sink was not cleaned properly. We have been to breakfast in restaurant and I must say there was not much to choose to eat, it was poor breakfast buffet. I m a little bit disapoinnted, since we have been in 4star hotel. But the view was great.

Jugendstil only in the main building

David Don 30/04/2017 11:07

I chose this hotel because I like Jugendstil (art nouveau). We got an nice apartment with a living room with a view on the Mosel river, a kitchen and a separate bedroom. Disadvantage is that you always need to walk outside 100 meters to go to the main building for breakfast and the wellness. You can only find the Jugendstil in the main building - the hotel lobby, bar and restaurant look magnificent. The breakfast offers a good variation of fine foods. Dinner is quite expensive but very good, although I should not eat everything they list on their menu, I'm not a fan of ox cheeks for example. In my opinion, there is not enough capacity in the restaurant compared to the size of the hotel and outlying apartments. The wellness is small but nice.

Art Deco rabbit warren

Great looking main hotel building - very Art Deco - several dining spaces and a bar, front terrace. Our room was in a parallel building that was much less Art Deco; it was plain, comfortable, with just a road view and not lavishly appointed. Quite different to the modern and traditional rooms in the web photos, but had a modern bathroom. Walking to it involved one flight of stairs or a lift, crossing an covered walkway crossing a road, down two steps and down one spiral staircase. Definitely some limitations for mobility impaired unless you're in the main building, even then the main reception is up 8 steps.

We had a Junior Suite with dinner package at €230 a night, including a welcome drink, chocolate box and 3-course dinner. The dinner was a tasty, homely affair rather than anything astounding, considering the opulence of the room itself. The staff were friendly to us, but we did note a fairly elderly clientele at this hotel. I think English is spoken, but less frequently and as a result, some staff were embarrassed rather than stand-offish. It's borne out by the fact that our email confirmation started in English, but all the details in German.

The breakfast was the usual German spread, with some hot items - due to the popularity, we ate in the restaurant next to the bar, and almost got our own waitress, who was delightful and friendly. The food items were fine.

Loved their spa space - great view to look out at from the sauna. Shared nude unisex saunas are the norm we discovered.

Good atmosphere, walk to most things, relatively easy street parking around hotel, but a little expensive for a small town.

Could Do Better

Anja Kon 23/02/2017 21:46

I stayed at the Jugendstil Hotel Bellevue for three nights in February 2017 with a friend on a girls’ weekend. To begin with, I have to say that we were both a little disappointed with the hotel, especially its service. We were debating whether to give it three or four points on TA. I settled for four, as we really enjoyed our stay overall, but there is room for improvement!
We had booked a package that included a room for three nights, a massage, cake and coffee in the Art Nouveau salon, a glass of sparkling wine in the bar, a four course dinner, a two course dinner and a wine tasting. After our arrival, we were informed that the hotel hadn’t been able to organise the wine tasting, yet, and would we accept a three course dinner (instead of the two course) as compensation in case it couldn’t be organised within the next two days? We reluctantly agreed. During the next two days, we asked at reception three times whether or not the wine tasting would take place. The first two times, they just said they didn’t know. The third time we asked they said: “It’s the three course meal tonight”. No explanations, no apologies. I would have expected a lot more of a hotel that prides itself in upholding a certain standard! Not only did we get the feeling that it wouldn’t have been much of a problem to organise the wine tasting: there were several wineries only a few steps from the hotel that advertised them. Apparently, the hotel’s staff just couldn’t be bothered. We also would have expected to be informed proactively instead of having to ask at reception time and again and not being able to make any plans for the evening in case the wine tasting would take place after all. An apology would have been nice as well!
To be fair, the young man who checked us in was very nice and helpful, even went out to the hotel’s parking lot (which is quite a distance away from the hotel and badly signposted, by the way) with my friend to help her with her luggage. The rest of the reception staff – oh well…
In the restaurant during dinner, the head waitress asked everyone around us whether everything was all right and had they enjoyed their meal, but totally ignored us. What was that all about? Most of the other tables were occupied by elderly couples. Were we to young to deserve her attention? Did she take us for a same-sex couple and was demonstrating her bigotry? Most of the other staff members in the restaurant were very polite and friendly, though.
Our room was cleaned daily to an excellent standard. The only complaint I have here is that our used coffee cups were never exchanged.
We had requested a room close to the sauna facilities and swimming pool. These are located in a building across a small alley from the main building and connected to this by a covered bridge. The main building is truly beautiful, and our room (114), in the back building, was quite spacious and well equipped with a safe, mini bar, coffee maker, big flat screen TV, bath robes, and slippers. It had stylish Art Nouveau wallpaper as well, but could have been better furnished. I couldn’t really discern a concept behind the way the room was decorated. The wardrobe had some decorative carvings that were remotely reminiscent of Art Nouveau but only made it look tacky, in my opinion. The rest of the furniture was mostly modern, while the bed had apparently been intended as a canopy bed but didn’t have the drapings, so that there was merely a wooden frame protruding from it, which looked odd, to say the least. The handle on the wardrobe was very loose and wobbly, which slightly annoyed us whenever we opened the door and would have been easy enough to fix by just tightening the screw. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small and had obviously not been redone in quite a while. Only basic toiletries were provided, no conditioner or body lotion.
Breakfast consisted of bread rolls, croissants, cake, toast, butter, jam, cheeses, cold cuts, smoked salmon, scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, fruit juices and sparkling wine. Apparently, it was also possible to order eggs to taste from the kitchen, though nobody told us about this option. We only saw people doing it on our last day there. Breakfast really was a bit of a disappointment. Choices were rather limited (only one kind of cake, for example, no breads, no pastries), it sometimes took quite a while until empty containers were replenished and the quality of the food wasn’t always great, either. The smoked salmon was old and smelly one day, the fruit weren’t that fresh and the scrambled eggs quite greasy another day. The coffee wasn’t good, either.
We had a three course and a four course dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. There were always three options for the main course: meat, fish and vegetarian. The rest was set, but we were told that if we didn’t like one of the items on our menu, we could exchange it for something else. The food was generally of good quality and well prepared, but not always. For example, I had braised beef once, and one of the two slabs of meat I got was so tough and greasy that I couldn’t eat it.
We had the typical German afternoon meal of cake and coffee in the Art Nouveau salon once, and again were a bit disappointed. There were only three choices of cake, and the cheesecake my friend had appeared to have been defrosted. The salon is very pretty, though.
The massage I got as part of our package was just OK. My friend thought hers was good, though. The swimming pool is very small. However, the spa is beautiful and looks brand new. It is decorated Art Nouveau style and consists of a 55 °C sauna, an 85°C sauna, a steam bath, infrared chairs, foot baths and different kinds of showers (raining ice, for example). There’s a sun terrace as well.
As for things to do, nearly all the museums and many shops in town were closed at this time of year, but we did not get bored. Besides spending time in the spa and doing a walking tour of the old city, I highly recommend walking up to Grevenburg ruin. The views of the town and river from up there are just stunning. There’s a quick, steep way up if you turn left after crossing the Mosel bridge. If you turn right instead and walk through Trarbach old town first, there’s another way up through the vineyards, which is longer but much easier.

Beautiful hotel

Best serviced hotel in Germany. Staff were always attentive and helpful and the breakfast was really well presented and tasty. The restaurant had a well thought through menu with an additional small Card. Very high standard with reasonable price.
