What People are saying

very outdated accomodation

gthompson1957on 14/08/2017 19:38

we were really looking forward to our stay as the website made the hotel look very good. we were so disappointed when we arrived to see how run down and old fashioned the hotel was. our rooms were dingy and smelled damp and the bed linen was old and worn to the degree that I never slept in the bed for the whole week. I went and bought a throw and a pillow as there is no way I could have lain on that bed. the staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was very good. there are no restaurant facilities as stated when we called before our visit. we enjoyed the swimming pool even though it was old fashioned too. the décor is so outdated and shabby we will not stay there again.

very poor housekeeping.

we enjoyed out overall stay at greengables, the only thing to complain about is the extremely out dated interior, the smell of 'old' as soon as you walk in you're room and the very poor job of house keeping staff. we stayed at this hotel for 6 nights and our towels were never changed and the tea and sugar etc were only changed once despite asking at reception. All the other staff were a lovely and great at meeting most of the needs we required. Unfortunately would never stay here again.

Ok for a base, not luxurious at all

I found it hard to score this hotel as although I will never stay there again, I know that the standard of hotels in Scarborough isn't amazing overall. I couldn't go higher than three and maybe 2.5 would have worked better. One thing for sure with this hotel is that the people running it are very helpful, polite and are doing their best with a terribly old, tired and in some places absolutely awful building. We booked an apartment between four of us as a base to play the east coast golf courses and thankfully we didn't need to be in the hotel much. Parking is an issue but we found spaces on the roads around, the apartment was huge but was also reminiscent of some sort of bedsit with the worlds worst shower and in desperate need of refurbishment. I imagine the maintenance on his building (as it's huge) is astronomical so the chance of a refurbishment programme will be zero. There is an indoor pool, games room, Tv room, snooker, reading rooms and a conservatory for brekky. I have to be completely honest, I would never take my family here but as a group of guys paying £25 each a night what could we actually have expected ? Reminds me of a crazy mixture of Butlins, Fawlty Towers and The Shining .. sorry that's just my personal view.

Stay over for flamingoland

betvinon 10/08/2017 21:23

Stayed here as flamingoland was fully booked so looked for places close by. This particularly hotel caught my eye due to the fact I was taking 3 kids from the ages between 4-9 years and when it stated it had a swimming pool and games room thought it would be ideal.

Fantastic! Yes the decor is slightly dated but for what you pay and breakfast being included in that price it's perfect. Plenty for the kids to do and keep them occupied we enjoyed a few drinks in the bar, used all the facilities and even played monopoly in the library.

The beds were comfortable had a Tv in the room which also was a separate bedroom to the kids which was a nice surprise as expected all being in one room. Quite clean fresh bedding and towels, and all staff were very friendly and helpful.

Not too far from Scarborough town centre although we were lazy and took the car. After driving back to Durham from flamingoland a wish we had stayed a second night as it was a tiring day.

Lovely stay and would definatly stay again in future.

Thank you Green Gables.

Lovely hotel

Stayed for 1 night with my husband and grandaughter and what a lovely time we had. We went and used the swimming pool and it was brilliant, we stayed in a couple of hours ang had a great time. On the night we went down to the bar and again lovely very friendly and quite reasonably priced. We also stayed for breakfast which was hot and tasty. We all really enjoyed it. This hotel seems to get a few bad reviews but we thought it was great and really good value for money. We would definitely stay here again. Thankyou for making our stay pleasurable.
