DO NOT GO DURING EASTER WEEKEND AS IS PARTY CENTRAL!!!!
253fitzyon 05/06/2017 16:38I would of rated this higher as these are the positives - great location, mostly freindly staff, fabulous views, lunchtime food good, great pool. Downsides - rooms very dated (but to be fair i epxpeted this and we paid for the view not the room) it did what it said on the tin. VERY LOUD music during Easter Weekend where the whole of Jamaica decend outside the rooms for a festival. The bass was so loud it moved our furniture!!!. Not a relaxing time I paid for. Food overpriced. pool open late (sometimes 11am) and kids aren;t allowed rubber rings etc even though pool not busy. If you want no frills, eat outside, fabulous views and not during Easter then I would definately recommend.
Just ok
suziecute100on 04/06/2017 09:301. Luggage room was musty
2.Rooms were dated- I asked to have TV (not flat screen) be fixed during stay, no one fixed it.
3.Phone in room didn't work
4.Coffe pot didnt work
5.Food pricy
6. Downstairs bathroom smells terrible
But on the brighter side
1.The front desk reps were awesome
2. The beach is right across from the property
3.You sure can't drown in their pool it's barely 4 ft deep
4.A/C worked
Rooms On The Beach
Carolyn Son 21/05/2017 20:40My friends and I stayed at Rooms in Oches Rios and were very very happy with our stay! The staff are friendly and very helpful, fantastic food at a reasonable price ...and you can even have your meals brought out to enjoy on the beach (big thank you to Edward and Ryan!) light breakfast menu included but they have a full a la carte menu as well as a wonderful pool bar! Bedrooms are clean, and non smoking. . I'd recommend a balcony over looking the ocean. ..just so relaxing! Beach is right there and Rooms is located in the middle of town. ..turn right on the main street towards Margaritas Ville or left up to the main area of local flavors. ..straight is turtle park :) everything within easy walking distance. We will definitely be booking with Rooms again on our next trip! Regards, Carolyn S
Best for location - beach at front and shops nearby
Karen Bon 21/05/2017 03:53Stayed quite a few times only for location as it's at the beach front and close to shops, easy to get around walking so we could be relieved from driving (had a road trip around island - stayed in various rustic but lovely places, such as Jakes Hotel and Zion Country). So we were glad to be able to air out again right on the beach (and our clothes!).
Not like it was some years ago, needs updating, not sure if new owners will keep it in this range of $ or move it up with the new Moon Palace (the old Grand) which excludes many just on room per night. It may be allowed to run down to rebuild?
Meals ok. Continental breakfast. We had a deal with a cooked breakfast included and dinner. Ok (just that we know we've had better home cooked JA food all around the island for much cheaper).
Pool atrociously shallow (great for kids) - one of my main disappointments as I love to holiday and swim, however sea is right there. Agree with others, they haven't cleared the sea bed so natural grass/seaweed, bumpy walk into the sea!
Some staff friendlier than others. Safe was closed couldn't use it but we had already asked for extra pillows, TV to sort, toilet getting blocked and added fridge US$8 per night so didn't want to bother them again!
Other main disappointment - too many men around the pool (and beach though I know they cannot shut off the beach, many approach you, though friendly enough but after 3 or 4, like leave me alone!). The staff around the pool - all men and 4 - 10 men at any one time. I suppose it seems more in low season as they are not as busy but just hanging around pool/beach makes it uncomfortable for women (unless you want attention or looks!).
For us preferable than staying cocooned in a complex but won't stay as many nights next time (this time 4, before 2 - 7 nights).
Again, location good for all trips, local food cheaper outside and nicer! Try Jerk Hut opposite park on main road. Try patties from Juicee or Tastee....Island Grill left of hotel...and it goes on...hair and barbers right of hotel in James Plaza...local market, right of hotel be prepared to barter!
Wifi good this time and in room! TV in room. Telephone for show only. Paid price / value mainly for beach setting, though they do change towels every day - nice touch. However feels like the love and pride has left the building (unlike Jakes & Zion) so was ready to move on after 3 nights wind down/breeze out.
Loved every minute!
Sandra Fon 03/05/2017 01:59Last week we stayed on the ground floor ocean view side. The sights and sounds were absolutely wonderful. If you want to be part of the real Jamaica this is a great hotel. Not five star but a jem for the money. There was a few small things like our door not locking very well but it was all taken care of. If you want a fridge make sure to order one as they may not have one available when you get there. Tbey people, food, pool service was wonderful. Very attentive to the guests. Also Excursions Ocho Rios was the best travel guide ever. Tubing down the river, seeing all the sights from fancy homes to Ritchie knowing little details about anything you wanted to know about! This was a holiday to remember! Thanks Ocho Rios and the people are wonderful!!
