Another excellent independent hotel
Malcolm Son 13/02/2017 20:11in my job, I see a fair view hotels and I always think it is fair to point out the ones that need to close and the ones which deserve to thrive.
Rounceval House is one of the latter and is absolutely delightful. Nice breakfast, centrally placed so a great opportunity to have a nice walk around the town.
In transition
Kim Pon 17/09/2016 10:36New owners, John and Lynda, will be transforming the house into more of a townhouse with rooms for business people to stay during the week. The house itself, built in 1670, is beautiful, and I really enjoyed staying on "the high street" in Chipping Sodbury. Great location and looking forward to coming back.
Pleasant stay with a few snags
Felicity Con 17/08/2016 21:09Stayed here while attending a wedding in the nearby villages. The room itself was quirky (room number 9 with the curtained off bathroom) with loads of space. We found we had to open the windows when we arrived as the weather was warm and listed buildings do hold the heat! This did the trick and when we returned the room was a pleasant temperature.
On to the snags - parking, I have noticed a few reviews extolling the virtues of the off-road parking, well we didn't get to use it mainly because a few people had parked quite selfishly taking up lots of space (maybe some space designators might be an idea). This wasn't too much of a problem initially as we were able to park right outside when we checked in but it took us some time to park when coming back after the wedding reception and we ended up parking a distance away.
The breakfast - don't get me wrong breakfast was tasty and freshly cooked but it would be lovely if it was served a bit later at weekends (especially when you have had a late night at a wedding!)
Room number 9 - the toilet that is only curtained off wasn't a problem in terms of awkwardness but I was rather worried about waking up my other half when using it in the early hours of the morning - however there was a shared loo just outside the room which it was possible to use instead.
Finding the place - it took us a few drives up and down the high street to find the hotel as most of the promo photos are of the back of it - not a big thing but something to bear in mind when planning your arrival.
Overall a pleasant stay, probably would have rated it higher if we had been able to park in the car park.
Beautifu
Teachlizon 14/08/2016 16:09We stayed here on our wedding night July 30th, because we could walk from our wedding venue. Although we didn't take enough time to appreciate it, our room was beautiful with a roll top bath, the breakfast good and the location picturesque. When we arrived late in the evening there was a card congratulating us and a box of chocolates. Thoughtful touches during a short but sweet stay.
Brief Overnight
Allen Hon 10/08/2016 08:51An old house in the middle of town. Quite dated and gruby - but with a charming host. I was unlucky and got the deluxe double room 9. Very few hotels have the benefit of the bath and toilet in the room with your bed. Room 9 is on the front of the hotel so I could listen to the boy racers in their cars racing up and down the main street most of the night. The windows rattled in their frames and I had to wedge one with paper as it rattled in the breeze. On the upside the hotel was located very close to pubs and restaurants so food was no problem.
