One of the Best Places to Stay at Basel

I went to Basel during the first week of Mar 2017 on a business trip and stayed at this hotel for 10 nights. My first time in Basel couldn't have been more memorable and a major credit goes to this hotel. It is an excellent hotel, which is strategically located right next to German Train Station and McDonalds. My office building was just across the street and if you like Thai food, there is Malai Thai Restaurant within half a kilometer.
The room in which I stayed was very spacious and clean. The hotel staff (Christian Peter and Noémie HESS at the reception and both the ladies serving breakfast) were very friendly and polite.
This hotel also have a Self Check in system, which means that one can check in 24/7, no waiting at the reception to check in, more flexibility and easy payment of your room and services.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Highlights: spacious room, modern bathroom, kettle with good tea, wide selection of breakfast materials, friendly staff

Other points: the hotel makes use of a self-check in which means there is limited reception availability, this works fine as you can call a 'virtual reception desk' 24/7. The price was high, but everything in CH tends to be expensive.

The story: During a business trip visiting a firm in Basel I was booked to stay at the Royal Hotel for one night. It was my first trip to CH and as such I didn't realize I'd need to bring an adapter with me. Fortunately the hotel let me borrow one and save me from having to go into the office with a bad hair day (i.e. i needed my straighter). When I asked to borrow the adapter for the day, they actually offered it to me when I shared my story with them, this gesture of kindness really touched me!

I visited the hotel during a business trip in Basel. The room was nice and clean. When first reached the hotel, it was late at night around 11 and I had to check in outside. Seemed kind of strange and when entered there was no one in the reception. As written in another review seemed like a ghost hotel. Even to go to the room you had to place the card in a specific place in the elevator and it took you to floor 4 by itself where apparently all the rooms are placed. No clue what is on the other floors..
Next day, I went down for breakfast and I saw people! It was a nice surprise!!
Breakfast was not bad. Apparently the staff is helpful since I had to leave my luggage at the hotel until 16.00 and they were ok with it. Of course to re enter in the hotel when you have checked out is not the easiest thing since it's closed and only if you call from the phone which is placed outside they open the door for you.
So overall I cannot say it's not good. Since the room is ok, breakfast OK and people helpful. But there is a strange feeling left from the hotel and I am not sure whether I would choose to stay again there.

Good for business trip

My first stay here in probably 6-8 years. All rooms on 4th floor. Rooms reasonably large with typical small bath. All very clean. Nespresso machine, mini fridge, iron/board and tea kettle in room. Self serve breakfast may or may not be included, depending on how you book. DB train station directly across the street, tram stop right outside door. If room faces street, it can be noisy with windows open. noise from other rooms or corridor.Arrangement with local gym for workout. 10 minute cab ride from airport CHF 45.Many restaurants within a 15 minute walk. Hotel Wifi worked well. I have stayed here before and would stay here again.

Stayed here for one night and was pleasently surprised about the spacious room with extra chairs and workdesk
Comfy bed and very friendly helpfull staff
Breakfast was normal and in order
Bathroom is very clean and nice looking just too small for me especially compared to the size of the room
